I heavily used kaudiocreator as the best CD ripper, recently moved to
Mageia 8, I find it has been deleted. I found a Mageia 7 repo and I
tried to install it, and it came up with:
urpmi /home/Someuser/kaudiocreator-1.3-8.git20161216.5.mga7.x86_64.rpm installing kaudiocreator-1.3-8.git20161216.5.mga7.x86_64.rpm from /home/Someuser
Installation failed: kaudiocreator < 1.3-8.git20191114.4 is obsoleted by (installed) task-obsolete-8-294.mga8.noarch
Is there a way to force the intallation, it's an outrage to just delete
used applications and pick from vastly inferior ones as a "replacement".

I have a similar problem with dvdstyler. Fortunately I have a Mageia 6 partition to run it in.
I think that being on the cusp of optical disk obsolescence makes it
less of a problem
Handbrake is able to rip DVD's not that I've done it
Also K3b will rip DVD's. In the Advanced section of the Copy dialog checking "Ignore Read Errors" has gotten me past copy protection and
the resulting "ISO" file has played flawlessly when the original DVD
would not (region errors)
Regards
And even better if you get k3b to use cdrecord (cdrtools) instead of wodin(cdrkit).
But yes, optical disks are disappering.

That has been on my back burner for years.
I know that someone had a script to install cdrecord and install the links. The way things are going, though, it may be like the horse trough and hitching rail I always meant to set up :-)

The script is attached. I stopped replacing failed dvd drives (they
don't like
heavy cigarette smokers) and haven't tried the script in years. No idea..
what
changes it may need to work with Mageia 8.
