Sorry, my mental RAM can't retrieve the correct words :(
I switched from Mageia's native networking to the one from GNOME. Now I
have switched back, but I have no icon. Where can I find it?
The icon is from the program net_applet, from the package drakx-net-applet. If you've unchecked the option to autostart, it creates the file ~/.net_applet with a line containing AUTOSTART=FALSE. Change it to TRUE
or remove
the file to have it autostart on login.

that has been snipped into the brain file
It is seriously depressing to be reminded just how much one doesn't know about everything and anything
I could assign a second life time to read all man files :-)

There's also the option of running net_applet manually, right clicking
on it's
icon and then selecting the autostart option again, if that's what you
want.

Yes, that was the problem. I was surprised that the setting was in my
home directory. That means that each user can choose whether or not to
show the icon.
