Does anyone know how to get rid of the W95 boot screen? The
fullscreen thing with the w95 logo on it. I don't mean to just press
ESC if it appears, there is a way to disable it permanently, but I
don't remember...

[Aghast at the Win95 startup screen, Dean Pettigrew said to All...]
After just installing Windows 95 i want to change the
startup logo (The one that is shown when the system is booting) how to
i change this?
Hi Dean.
I posted up a (couple?) of messages about how to do it all awhile back,
there's also other people who've done the same.dummy
Anyway, here's the info again in case the old messages aren't on your BBS anymore.
Create a 256 color bitmap (.bmp) of 320x400 and place it into the root directory of your bootup hard drive. (typically C:\)
(A standard 8 bit 256 color is the type to use. Don't use a 16 bit (ie.
16 million colour pic) because it won't be displayed.)
Rename the pic to logo.sys
Now each time you boot, Win95 will use that pic instead of it's "inbuilt" one.
The pic _must_ be 320x400 pixels in size or else Win95 will spit the
and just show you text info that Windows is loading. If you use a 320x200 pic, it will be displayed onscreen but will _not_ appear right.suitable
So you'll need to "stretch" any 320x200 pic you want to use, with a
image processing program (ie. Paintshop Pro) by resizing it to 320x400and
then saving it as a .bmp filepic
Beware of the logo.sys file being named with a Win95 long filename. It _must_ be a standard DOS 8.3 filename and not something like logo.sys.bmp ;-)
If it's anything other than logo.sys, then it won't be used.
BTW, you don't get the colour cycling loading bar at the bottom of your
as Win95 boots up with your new pic so don't panic. ;-)needs
Also, on a related topic, there are two files in the Windows directory called logos.sys and logow.sys
These are standard 256 colour bitmaps (but at 320x400) used by Win95 to display the "safe to shutdown" and "please wait while shutting down" screens repectively. You can also change them according to the same limitations as logo.sys
Any altered versions of logos.sys and logow.sys that you want to use
to be in the Windows directory to work. (not C:\)screens
(Be sure to back them up if you want to use them again if your new
aren't to your liking.) ;-)
Lastly, if you ever add the Win95 Plus Pack to your system, it will _replace_ any logo.sys file that you have on your system as your boot up pic.

I remember doing this many, many moons ago, but I'm not really sure it
was WFWG 3.11 or Win9x. Anyway, I have found some notes from last
century that might help you...

LOGO.BMP IIRC.

I hope it helps you, Andreas. Have fun!

Yes, it did. Thanks a lot!
