I only went to one back in summer of 2014. It was decent. I did meet
David Braben, play his new Elite Dangerous game, see the models,
chatted, etc. I wasn't even an Elite fan since I never played a game,
but my online buddy loved that game and told me to visit it. It was
worth it even though I still didn't care for this game! :D

Guess all the "booth babes" will have to find employment elsewhere.

I'm not sure what was worse, the fact that companies thought they were a
good idea of the fact that they worked!

You have obviously never seen a single ad or piece of advertising in
your life. Sex has ALWAYS sold.

I understand it does work but a lot of the time I still think why. It
used to be something in the world of model kit shows and I always
thought am I going to buy that vendor's paint just because there's an >attractive woman wearing a tight top over a large pair of honkers. Even
worse the people who get selfies with their arm around them. She'd paid
to do that, she's not thinking I like a man with a slight body odour
problem!

The idea is you're going to look at her (ooh squirrel!), and that means
you might see the booth display as well, while you're oggling the eye
candy.
It's a visual cue.

There's also research that shows that hetero men get significantly less rational especially where it comes to finances (i.e. willing to spend
money) after having just seen a picture of a woman they perceive as very attractive, and that is more pronounced in their actual presence.
There's the infamous Mythbusters episode where Kari Byron works a couple
days at a coffee shop, day 1 normally, and day 2 with a stuffed bra
where she got significantly more tips in the tip jar, even from women.

i.e. sex sells.
Why does it? That's a harder question, and a quick search doesn't
really turn up an answer, the best I've been able to find relates it to
the social structure of social animals, as it can be seen among other primates as well, attractive (to others of the same group) ones
garnering more attention and gifts.
