In this run? Almost have all the walnuts on Ginger Island. Somewhere
in year 3 or maybe 4.

Ant officially beat Spalls to the punch! Spalls is down but not out!
Doom Eternal
Like many, I bounced off this hard at release, from the combat
mechanics being unfamiliar and a little complex, but for whatever reason
came back a couple weeks back and finished it on Easy, finding nearly
all the collectibles -- I replayed missions for early levels to find any missing ones, but later on just wanted to finish and still have 4 or so
to find. This time around I'd say I had an enjoyable experience, but emphasize that the learning curve was very long, and new guns and
powerups spaced out over the levels, and in retrospect, I'd say the
designers did a good job of making each new level a tutorial and
practice for each new mechanic (like double-jumping, say).
But, was it *really* enjoyable as a whole, or does the emphasis on the frantic combat and constant bunny-hopping demand so much attention from
the player that you can't breathe and appreciate other aspects? The
story particulars were dribbled out in text blobs, but it is possible to entirely ignore those and get the gist. Graphics though lovely don't
get due attention with the constant need to push forward while
fighting. I guess what I'm trying to express is feeling kind of out of breath, and that levels felt more like successive arenas than part of a
story progression. Doom 3 and Doom 2016 were fairly story heavy and in comparison slow-paced, and the transition is jarring. I have to say
though, that it will be tough to return to the style of the previous
games once accommodated to this more complex combat mechanic.

It's a lot to learn. It seems like a grinding game too. :/

You don't have to learn everything. You pick a career path and learn
what you need to for that path. I don't recommend mining unless you
group up with others. It gets boring doing that solo. That was my
first mistake in EVE online. It was not my last.
As for grinding... well... it is an MMORPG.
I did do mining during training. Yep, boring. Ha. I just want to do quick fights!

I run missions for agents to get into combat. Not sure if that is the
best or quickest way to get into fights but it worked for me.

All right, let me get the log. It's a bit bigger than usual:
- Owlboy (PC):
I had this game in my backlog for some time, and I refused to let it go. Unfortunately, I ended hateplaying it. Beautiful presentation and the
kind of "hd" pixel art that makes you impulse purchase, but the gameplay
and story are not up with the rest, to the point it ended reminding me
of those 16 bit disney games.
- Chip'n Dale Rescue Rangers (NES, PS4 Disney Afternoon Collection):
One of those games that I had been wanting to beat for some time.
Biggest difficulty comes from the lack of an instruction booklet. I was struggling with the final stages until I downloaded a scan and fount
there's a mechanic I did not know about.
- Quake Remastered (PC, Base game)
The freebie you would receive if you already owned Quake on Steam. It's
KEX engine rather than ID tech, but it plays nicely and you don't need
to have the CD inside to hear the music. I spend 2 days playing non stop untill In finished the 4 episodes of the original retail release.
Scourge of Armaggon in July
- Kirby and The Forgotten Land (Switch)
You know you got things right on the first time when the game is still
1.0, there never was a day one patch and you don't find a single bug in
the entire playthrough. First Kirby with 3d movement that is not some
weird arena fighting game. Better than expected, although the new
controls and pseudo autoaim may show its shortcomings on the hardest challenge levels
Other games that I played a bit, but dropped or postponed:
- God of War Ragnarok (PS5)
Something is weird with that game. After a few minutes I started getting extreme discomfort, my eyes start itching, headaches and I need to stop, feeling in a state of irritability for some time. It's like sensorial overload or something, like straining to see the 4K downscaled to a 40" 1080p. Has to be something with the detail level, because this has only happened to me with native PS5 games like Ragnarok and Stellar Blade.
FFVII Rebirth is ok for me.
- Clannad:
Not a lot to say. It's a japanese visual novel, and the point where the developer decided that porn was innecesary to sell it, so it's just a
normal, all ages interactive book.
-Classics:
I got one of those fake Nintendo NES consoles, the horrible nes on a
chip type that is missing the triangle sound channel. Sitll had a blast
with it playing Blue Shadow (Shadow of the Ninja, but at that time there
was a problem with the brits and the word "ninja"), Darkwing Duck,
Adventure Island 3... I need to play a few of those in the Mesen core.
candycanearter07 wrote:
Dang. The only "hd pixel art" game I can think of would be like
Octopath Traveller.
I mean HD Pixel in a way similar to The Iconoclasts. It's more detailed
that the usual low res pixel, scales perfectly and looks good at 1080p,
and the level of detail can't be appreciated in a small screen like the Deck's 7 inches.

Huh, why did you want to beat it?
It's one of the Capcom Disney licensed classic games and the one I never
had. I played Ducktales, Darkwing Duck, Goof Troop, Snes Aladdin... This
is the one that got away. I just never found the time to sit and play.

Neat! I've never beaten Quake.
Playing vanilla Quake may be a bit painful, specially with the enemies
moving as if it was a slideshow (animation interpolation came with GL
Quake). Although there are great source ports, the remaster is a great version if you want to play it without complications, go online fast or
need accesibility options.
BTW, Quake in normal difficulty could be considered easy with modern controls. It's like they toned it down a bit for cursor controls. Except
for the dreaded tar babies in the later episodes, it's a well balanced
game.
- Kirby and The Forgotten Land (Switch)
Wait, really? Even Star Allies had a day one patch, I think..Yep. This game only has local play, though. I guess with Star Allies it
would make more sense.
Either that, or Sony hates me for all those pirated PSX games in theOther games that I played a bit, but dropped or postponed: - God of
War Ragnarok (PS5)
Maybe the game is cuurrrsseseedddd
nineties

Why?
Why what? Using a famiclone is way of reliving the real experience many people had as kids with very cheap parents (I'm a sucker for era
accurate gameplay but some times I take it too far), and I never had the experience of multicarts with very weird unexpected hacks to dodge the copyright. Still laughting at that version of Super Mario Bros with
Alice Cooper instead of Mario.
If you mean why I am using Mesen to emulate, it's the most accurate Nes
core at the moment.
I don't think Sony would be /that/ petty. Nintendo, on the other hand..

Why are you using like a knockoff NES on a chip if you have an

It's fun, it's bizarre, there are a lot unlicensed oddities that still
have not been dumped, and it's definitely cheaper than finding a
functioning Top Loader redesigned famicom with an AV out instead of just
RF. I have a few 60 pin carts that I can't use on the PAL nes, so this
was a cheap solution for minor testing, specially now that there's no
stock of the Analogue NT or the AVS.

Based on what I think I know of your gaming preferences, I personally
never would have recommended this game to you. It requires too much of
your time and it is a slow paced game.
If you want to try another MMO in the future, give City of Heroes a
try on the Homecoming server. You *may* find that one more to your
liking.

I played City of Villains' free beta something. It was cool.
I'm not anti-team - in fact there used to be a csipgr team on live back

That's exactly it, I like to move at my pace, often that's quite slow
and exacting since I play many different types of chars including controllers. I don't care if it's powerful, I care about the concept
of the char, and sometimes that makes em week.
My second char to 50 on live was a Mind/Rad Controller, at least 99.9% soloed.
I hate being rushed and I hate speed runners;
"What's your rush buddy, this is supposed to be fun?
If you've got ADHD, I suggest you find a game tuned for that, City ain't
it."

Homecoming is now licensed by NCsoft, and it's FREE. Advancement is
much quicker than the game was with NCSoft, perhaps too quick. But it's >still good fun for a few months or longer depending how into you get.
It includes City of Villains and the neutral city, which I don't
remember the name of and couldn't find on a quick search and don't care >enough to look up.
Soloing is quite doable if you prefer not to group.
