I'll give it a try, what's to lose!

... eyesight.
Just watching the few minutes of the trailer with that hat 'super
grainy retro filter' gave me a splitting headache. I can't imagine
playing an entire game that used it. Even a short one.
I get why it's there; without it, the visuals look so simplistic and
plain as to lose all atmosphere. But it makes for a horrible gaming experience.

Can you turn it off?
No. At least, not through any in-game options. Perhaps there's a
config hack hex-edit to disable it but I've yet to see one.
The entire game is 150mb. The filter is used to disguise its low-res
assets (and also to set the mood, since the game is set in the 1980s).
The blurriness also helps with creating a sense of uneasiness and otherworldliness (there's also a constant camera wobble, as if the
whole game is being filmed through a hand-held camera). I understand
why the developers used it. But... they made the effect a bit too
strong and --having installed the game just to see-- I can report it
actually is MORE sickening in the actual game than the trailers make
out. I gave up on the game ten minutes in because it was just too
headache inducing for my taste,
