Just letting you know I'll be going to Alaska and won't have access to
my computer where I get/post Usenet for a couple weeks in 2 days.

(One of the things I really miss google groups for. the other was the
archive, as for some reason I have a hell of a time finding anything in
    the local archive in Thunderbird)

I am using a modded version of the PiaoHong newsreader someone on the
Italian usenet has put online. It fixes some of the bugs the original
has and makes it actually useful as a reader.
It's not my favorite way of accessing stuff, but it works when on the road.

There was a thread about it on news.readers a few months ago.

There used to be one called Groundhog news a few years ago, but that
    one is no longer updated.
Of course those are all for Android. I think there's at least one current IPhone reader, but I don't know much about it.

The worst part is walking the dog, the poor pup just walks nextdoor and
stops and looks up at me with the puppy dog eyes and we go back home
most days. If we do go any further, I wonder if I'm going to make it.

tons of people would drop dead every summer too, and it still happens if there's power outages. Solar would be great to keep that happening.

Also a European here, pretty much the only place you see AC is in
commercial buildings. Even when it gets hot it doesn't get that hot and
also the one time I'd like to use it, for sleeping, it would be useless
as the noise would keep me awake.

NewsTap for IOS remains the premier NNTP software for iPhones/iPads. https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/newstap-usenet-newsreader/id292410356

Of course, given the dearth of options, that's not /quite/ the praise
you might expect. It's not the most functional newsreader, but for
basic reading --especially on fairly low-volume newsgroups like this
one-- it gets the job done. I don't think its been updated in a while
but AFAIK it's still available for purchase and still runs on modern
versions of the operating system. But while it runs on the iphone,
it's interface isn't really suited their smaller screens, so I'd
    recommend a tablet.

I don't have one :( then again, I usually take my laptop while
travelling and keep everything saved locally just for that purpose.

Or just bring a laptop with a cellular dongle.

    That's a thing?

Of course, Alaska isn't renowned for its incredible cellular coverage,
and I suspect anyone going there for vacation isn't going to linger in
the few areas of the state that are well served. Plus, it could be
that Justisaur is going there to purposefully escape the lure of the
online world. Either way, typical mobile access probably won't be
    something too useful.

Oh yeah, going to the ends of the earth to escape everything.

It is part of Texas culture to support the oil industry. Using as much electricity as possible so more natural gas has to be burned for power
is an aspect of that religion. :P

so low that I now feel the need to put a jumper on and my legs still
feel cold as I'm wearing shorts. Then it was back outside and the heat
    felt even more oppressive.

It is part of Texas culture to support the oil industry.  Using as much electricity as possible so more natural gas has to be burned for power
is an aspect of that religion.  :P

Another thing I remember was using the light railway system in the
suburbs of Dallas and think the station looks like it's about a ten
minute walk away which was true but fat chance of actually being able to
walk there. Having public transport that's only accessible by car, where
    is the sense in that.

The other thing I found was just how much religion is in your face
compared to the UK. Why is this person asking me what church I attend
and then looking perplexed when I say I'm not religious. Why are they
then following it up with you should visit our church, why would I do
that, which bit of non-religious is hard to understand.

I still prefer cellular integrated in the laptop. No digging out a thing
to plug in and no fiddling with the phone when the intention is to use
    the laptop.

I know, I know, contracts and data caps and all that are often terrible
    but not here.

Well hope you're feeling better soon. I got it for the first time about
six weeks ago and it was a bit strange as very much feeling under the
weather but it was only when I was feeling a little better that I tested positive. A few days later, negative again.

2nd verified one. I had it last summer I think it was. I had the shot
and 2 boosters before hand but had slacked on getting more after all the negative press and they were supposed to be coming out with an improved
one in a couple months. Other than how long it lasted the first shot was
almost as bad as the first time I got it for about 3 days.

The first time was much worse, serious fever shakes and chills, I got
the antivirals which kicked it down to 'bad cold' pretty quick. I
didn't get any more boosters as from what I could find you shouldn't
take any for at least 6 months to a year after getting it. I almost
got a booster right before the cruise but wife didn't want to possibly
be sick for the beginning from the side effects.

The kids and wife both have it this time, but the kids it seems very
mild cold (except my daughter is very irritable) The wife seems like the
bad part lasted longer, but wasn't as bad as me. I'm feeling mostly
better today, just have the lingering cough and aches that always come
    with anything I get.

That works. I generally do that as much as I can except for D&D, but
haven't played D&D in person before Covid anyway. It's usually the wife
who likes to go on people filled vacations that we get sick on 90% of
the time since long before covid. I remember one time driving home from Disneyland I had the worst flu, way worse than either of the covids.

She generally avoids people too except me and the kids.
