What do you think; does the Final Fantasy series have a future as a
tent-pole franchise for Square Enix, or should they perhaps
re-evaluate the direction (and scope) they are going with these games?

I heard the latest one is not much of an RPG and is more of an action
game. Maybe this is turning people off to the game? I have no idea
    otherwise.

The only one I ever played was the 7th one and I absolutely loved it
but I doubt this latest one plays anything like that one so I have no
    interest in it personally.

Never tried any of the others, though I've been tempted to try 7 since
that's the one everyone raves about.

Yeah, that is why I tried it. Because everyone was raving about it. I
loved the combat system and the Materia (magic) system. I didn't care
too much for the story though.

I guess I'm not much of a JRPG player. The only even close to JRPG one
I ever finished was the little indy one Breath of Death. I also liked >Knights of Pen and Paper, but that's probably not close enough to a JRPG >really, I also never finished it either.

I think I would like JRPGs if FF 7 is anything to go by. The other
JRPG that people rave about is ChronoTrigger. I may try that one at
    some point.
