Huh. Another side-scrolling platformer with retro-graphics.
I dunno; I'm sort of burnt-out, or wearied, or generally sated by this
sort of game. Just kind of apathetic to that whole sort of experience
by having seen too much of games of that genre in the past. It's been
made dull to me, and perhaps I'm feeling just a bit cynical about the
whole thing.
It's hard for me to explain. I wish there was a single word that
expressed how I felt.
;-)
But I took the game, of course.

Also early access. I won't touch those. It's bad enough having to wait
a year or two after release for a lot of games to get some of the worst
bugs worked out *cough* (Bethesda) *cough*.

But at least Bethesda has been historically friendly to modding, and
that made up for a lot.
With their new Microsoft overlords, I imagine that will change hard.
Considering their changes to Windows, MS seems to be the opposite of
that attitude, YOU WILL DO IT OUR WAY, WE KNOW BETTER THAN YOU!!!!!!!!!!

I'm just trying to do the math of buggy Microsoft software + buggy
Bethesda software. The results are scary ;-P
But Bethesda hasn't _really_ been all that _supportive_ of modders for
years, long before their acquisition by Microsoft. They haven't been
actively hostile to them, but they've made a lot of moves that have
been solely for Bethesda's benefit and to the detriment of mods (many
of their updates seem to have little purpose other than to push their
own "Creation club" even as it breaks existing mods. The recent "Next
Gen" update to "Fallout 4", "Doom 3 BFG Edition" and "Skyrim Special
Edition" all are examples of this_.
That so many mods exist for their products is more a result of
Bethesda's refusal to update their creaky Gamebryo/Creation
game-engine that has powered all their biggest games. Because of this, >modders have great familiarity with the underlying systems, and so
don't have to re-invest a lot of time and effort into learning new
solutions. But from what I've read, this reluctance of Bethesda has
more to do with not wanting to change their own internal game design
workflow more than any real concern for what the modders want.
[They haven't even really added any real mod-loading support into
their games, requiring you to use third-party tools for that task]
So I don't have any real faith in Bethesda being a great protector of >modders. Microsoft is a bit more of an unknown. On the one hand, they
do tend to be more protective of their IPs. On the other hand, they
are also more business savvy, and probably recognize that modders
bring a lot of value to them. So I'm not sure which way they'll swing.

They have really, or at least they have not gotten in the way of
modding.

[They haven't even really added any real mod-loading support into

But again, they have done ZERO to get in the way of modding like so many other gaming companies.
So I don't have any real faith in Bethesda being a great protector of
modders. Microsoft is a bit more of an unknown. On the one hand, they
do tend to be more protective of their IPs. On the other hand, they
are also more business savvy, and probably recognize that modders

MS has always been, you do it our way, we know better than you what you
need, when mostly they haven't a fucking clue.
