• Re: Games you prefer to watch others (and yourself) play

I do rarely if I'm not going to play them. Does anyone else record their
own gaming and watch the recordings like I do like in recent/last year's
onlne Pulsar Lost Colony games (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLiTODPVxHAd8yRxOz9Iq-Bq4_O5-RJCWn)?
I also did the same for old computer games like classic Doom and its
    mods (https://zimage.com/~ant/antfarm/files/doom2/j2doom/j2doom.html as

    examples). :D

I've never been much of a spectator for games, sports included. I far
prefer to play almost all of them. I do enjoy some funny clips of Souls games, occasionally watching vids of people who've never played them, or watch things for spoilers/guides (generally I prefer text for the info
though it's getting harder to find.) But still played far more hours of those than I watched.

I've now come across the second game I prefer watching to playing,
    actually enjoying watching it.

    1) Untitled Goose Game - This is the first one. I only played the demo,
but I could quite easily tell I didn't like actually playing it, too
much puzzles without a clue type stuff. However shortly after playing
the demo I came across a video of someone playing it and really enjoyed watching that.

    2) Cuphead - I only played it briefly, I didn't like the old style
controls and platformer stuff where you had to remember a multitude of buttons - jumping, dashing, slapping, firing and with 8-way controlled
by the same as direction of movement, super attack and ultimate attack,
as well as two different attacks to switch between.

However after setting up a family steam account for my son, he tried
this (his first game on that being Halo Infinite, which I didn't enjoy watching, and he quit after an hour or two.) I really enjoyed his
commentary and helping him notice things and giving ideas of what to try
when he was briefly stuck (not spoilers since I didn't play that far.) I didn't watch the entire time, but I watched most of it.

Do you have any games you'd rather watch than play, and if so what are they?

    Nope. Well, mostly nope.

Certainly I never record for streaming online. I've no interest in
sharing my gameplay with others (which is quite convenient, as I'm
sure that nobody has any interest in watching me play either). On
very, very, very rare occassion I may do a brief snippet of video...
usually to troubleshoot or look at a very specific scene. But these
videos aren't granted any longevity; I don't keep them hanging around
for review years down the line.

Oh yea, video walkthroughs. I forgot about those too. Yeah, I watch
those if I get stuck! Remember the days when we didn't have these? All
we had were hint books, etc. ;P

The most I do is watch the 'automatic replays' some racing games offer
when you finish a track. But even those are ephemeral; I might watch
my exploits once or thrice, but they don't get saved to disk so once I
move onto the next race, they're gone.

Now, screenshots on the other hand... I've got a bunch of those
(albeit almost entirely of the virtual landscapes I run across, and
not of my character). Those make great desktop wallpaper images ;-)

Oh I share those too! Do you have any cool ones to share with us? ;-)

I used to post them on Photobucket and other services, but they've all
killed their free user accounts, so I stopped uploading. The majority wouldn't fall into the 'really cool' category anyway; they're just
    scenes I thought looked nice.

PixHost has been very reliable for me for several years now and has good retention. I actually can't remember if I _have_ an account with them
but I've uploaded hundreds to couple thousand files to them over the
course of a week on a regular basis.

Anyway, most of those have a fairly strict limit on how many pictures
/ megabytes you can upload. Given my collection is over 1400 pix / >
1GB in size, none of the free offerings are sufficient anymore (and

Steam also does media hostings too, but they have limits as well.
Definitely short videos. Got to use YouTube or another video hosting
services for long videos like my video recordings.

I'm the opposite with screenshots, almost all my screenshots are a crazy
score, bug, or plain accidential. /ALMOST/ nothing else. Tho, it is
kinda cool to look back at some games (D&DG) that get a graphics
    overhaul later on.
