Since I keep harping on how VR is dying, you'd be forgiven for
assuming I hate the tech. I don't; not really. I just don't think the
recent devices were deserving of the hype (or the price!) and disagree
with some of the choices made by the major players (e.g., how many of
the developers wanted to create their own ecosystem rather than create
    a device primarily as a PC add-on).

VR may one day become everything we dream of, but it's not going to
happen with this current batch of tech. So while I don't dislike VR,
neither am I entirely sad to see the decline of this era of VR. The
whole idea is half-baked; I'm happy to see it being shelved for a bit
    until its shortcomings are fixed.

And another indication that this is happening? Minecraft has
officially shelved VR support.* Minecraft apparently was one of the
bigger names in VR and the loss of such a major title is pretty big
news. Publishers aren't seeing enough customers using VR to keep
supporting the feature and are backing away. Given that Minecraft
appeals a lot to the younger set (you know, the ones most open to tech gadgetry and less critical of all its shortcomings), this indicates
that even the youth aren't onboard with the tech... which doesn't say
much for the immediate future of VR.

One day VR will have its day... but that day is not today.

Bit of a shame, VR could definitely be something special if it was more accessible.

To be fair, I personally dislike using VR because I get very motion
sick, but it is certainly an interesting technology.

That's kinda the problem, it is an interesting technology but it's also
a technology that seems to hunting around for a problem to fix. It was
games, then productivity and with a toe in the water of reality mixed
with real life. Personally I have no intention of crossing streets when
    wearing a VR headset!

I think the reality mix stuff is more in the AR space, which Google is
trying to break into again as of 2 days ago.
