• No column names in Apple Mail...

From TDH1978@21:1/5 to All on Thu Dec 1 22:06:48 2022
I'm using Apple Mail 13.4 on macOS Catalina 10.15.7, with "Use Column
Layout" enabled (i.e. three panes, with the preview in the bottom
    right).

The columns in the email list pane (top right) for some reason do not
have names (like "Subject", "To", "From", "Received", etc). I used to
have these column names in macOS High Sierra.

I've searched in the usual places ("Preferences > Viewing", and "View")
but I don't see the setting for having column names. Does anyone know
    where that setting is?

Never mind; turns out this is a known issue in Catalina:

FWIW, column view seems to work fine for my in macOS 12.6.1.

    It's not an issue ... it's a "feature". ;-)

Yet again, Apple goes with pointless style over actual usefulness. :-(

And when people didn't like the change, they changed it back...

The point was they stupidly removed them in the first place. What
kind of insane morons with zero knowledge of user interface design
came up with and okayed that change?

I haven't checked the dates, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was
the idiot Johnny Ive - great at making boxes (usually, a charging
point underneath the mouse is sheer idiocy!), but useless at software
design and he should never have been put in charge of it.

    People make mistakes.

    Even very smart people.

This strange idea some people have that every little thing they dislike
must have been the result of some direct decision by Tim Cook or Jony
    Ive is frankly ridiculous.
