For several weeks now I have been unable to download programs or updates
from the App Store on my iMac.
Whenever I start App Store.app, it asks for my apple ID and password.
When I enter them it responds with:
An unexpected error occurred while signing in.
The operation couldnąt be completed. (NSURLErrorDomain error -1012.)
I am able to log in to the app store with my iPod (the only other apple device I own), to the problem isn't with the apple ID or password I am
using.
I tried deleting ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore but to no avail.
Any ideas what might be going on here?

Thanks for your reply.
I'd actually already found that webpage but its suggestion didn't work.

what happens if you try accessing the app store from a different user account, ideally one that's just been created?
n.b. I am still running Mojave.
