Do does anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong. When I link up my
MacBook pro with the TV, all I get is this black screen with a row of
dots at the top and my MacBook pro mentioned on the center. I think it might be sharing sound but there's no picture
There are controls on the screen to play, fast Forward and reverse but
they don't do anything. I can turn the screen off and exit the black
screen but nothing else I have turned on screen sharing reset the
Bluetooth turned on screen mirroring, nothing helps. Do you have any
idea what I'm doing wrong? Could something in my MacBook pro be
preventing it from sending a picture to this external screen?

It's almost certainly the TV that is malfunctioning.
that google groups no longer worked?

Are you always this easily confused, or just today?

A lot of detail missing here. This is a 2019 MBP running 13.6.7 and thre link is BT. When I
What is the "link"? Wired? How? Wireless? How?
What Macbook is it (year)
What OS version on the Macbook
establish the link, the screen on the TV switches from the channel I
was watching to this curious black screen with the line of dots, the
input identification, the MBP identification and those non-working
controls.

Does the MBP have an HDMI port?
Seems to me that (if it does) you want an HDMI-to-HDMI connection.
With most MBP's and many television brands you can do a wireless
connection.
Well I wont say it wasn't a good idea to try making sure both the TV and
the macbook are on the same network,'cos it was a good idea.
But despite that, it didn't make any difference to the largely black identification screen
