• My first spam on lastname-firstname@debian.org address.

From Charles Plessy@21:1/5 to All on Wed Jun 9 15:00:01 2021
    Hello everybody,

I am not sure where to post this, so please forgive me if I missed a
    more suitable medium.

This week I received one spam at mylastname-myfirstname@debian.org
(or mylogin-myfirstname@debian.org, as in my case, login == lastname).
Today I tested the address and could confirm that it sends email to me.

I was wondering if this alternative address was intended for a purpose,
or just an accident. I ask on this list and not directly to DSA in case everybody who filled first and last name information also has this
    alias.

This is not so important on my side but made me curious, so feel free to
take plenty of time before answering.

    Have a nice day,

    Charles

    Hi,

in my case, login == lastname).

That's the twist here – it seems the debian.org mail server accepts - as a local extension character (in addition to +). At least, I successfully received mail at natureshadow-foobang@d.o

It's using a fairly standard suffix rule, based on your username. You
can add +<foo> or -<foo> and it will work.

I'm not sure if it is more officially documented somewhere else, but
it is mentioned in the Wiki:

    https://wiki.debian.org/DebianServiceForDD#Step_4:_Setup_your_email

Not an accident, actually documented behaviour: https://db.debian.org/forward.html

Thanks everybody for your quick answers!

In summary, the debian.org mail server accepts "-" as local extension character, and it is documented in:

    - https://db.debian.org/forward.html

(On my side, I did not manage to get the "+" to work).

    Have a nice week-end,

    Charles
