Hi,
We have attempted to install Debian 11.11 (both 32bit and 64bit) on
vSphere using the default configuration. The installation gets blocked
at the "Select and install software" step when the default
selections—"Debian desktop environment," "GNOME," and "Standard System Utilities"—are used.
Observations:
If "GNOME" is unchecked, the installation completes successfully.
If "Use a network mirror?" is set to "Yes", the installation completes successfully.
If the network is disconnected at the beginning of the installation,
the installation completes successfully.
If XFCE or KDE is selected instead of GNOME, the installation
completes successfully.
When Debian 11.11 GA was released on August 31, 2024, the installation
worked fine.
Upon pressing ALT+CTRL+F2 to access the console, we checked
/var/log/syslog, which showed logs as seen in the attached screenshot
"Debian 11.11 stuck at GNOME Installation.png."
Since the same issue occurs on Debian 11.10, we suspect that GNOME
installation on Debian 11.11 has conflicts with online package
installations.
Request for Assistance:
Could you please investigate and help resolve this issue?
