Hello,
For record, kameleon is the OS image builder used in the Grid'5000 research infrastructure (
https://www.grid5000.fr).
It has been used for more than 10 years to build various flavors of Debian, Ubuntu, RH-like images, which are deployed on cluster nodes (server machines, x86/arm64/ppc64) bare metal (kadeploy) or VMs.

A deb package is already provided in Grid'5000, but having it in official Debian would benefit to users outside.
The tool is generic, thus can be used in many other contexts.
