If the same happens to you, I am afraid linuxdoc-tools is not the program
you expect, but your remarks are valid anyway. Please let me know if the
same happens to your .gpx file after linking as favourites.sgml. By the
way, sgmltools is no longer available in Debian.
Thanks for the feedback. Indeed I get the same output as you after
symlinking to a file with an sgml extension.
For context, I wanted to edit the favourites.gpx file used by
OSMand. But I heard OSMand is quite fussy about spec
compliance. E.g. bad things would happen if I add a description to a
favourite (a point of interest) which literally contains an ampersand (“&”), which should be written as “&” My edits caused OSMand to behave poorly. So I was hoping linuxdoc-tools could help me find
characters that I need to encode for sgml compliance.
Anyway, that’s not your problem but I wanted to give some context on
what led me to use linuxdoc-tools on a GPX file. Glad my bug report
was useful nonetheless.
