• Bug#1104738: adduser: possible regression in autopkgtest: 'invalid char

From Luca Boccassi@21:1/5 to All on Mon May 5 15:40:01 2025
    Package: adduser
    Version: 3.151

    Dear Maintainer(s),

Since the latest upload of adduser, an autopkgtest of src:systemd
    started failing with:

'invalid characters in Temporary autopkgtest user,,, at /usr/share/perl5/Debian/AdduserCommon.pm line 141.'

The issue only appears in unstable, and started on May 2nd, same day
as the latest upload of adduser, so the timing would suggest a
correlation. The debci maintainers said nothing has changed on their
side on that day or since.

    Example of a failed run:

    https://ci.debian.net/packages/s/systemd/unstable/amd64/60380652/#S54

    The test case that fails:

    https://sources.debian.org/src/systemd/257.5-2/debian/tests/tests-in-lxd/

The test reliably fails on unstable and reliably works on testing, as of today.

    Thanks!

The document linked on that page doesn't contain "invalid" or
"Temporary", and it looks like a successful run.

Maybe I am overlooking something here?

It's hidden in the default-collapsed test setup details.

    https://ci.debian.net/data/autopkgtest/unstable/amd64/s/systemd/60380652/log.gz

1966s invalid characters in Temporary autopkgtest user,,, at /usr/share/perl5/Debian/AdduserCommon.pm line 141.

    etc.

    Chris

Thanks. The three commas gave it away. Will be fixed in the next upload.
Feel free to try the code in the wip-comment1 branch on salsa.

    Greetings
    Marc
