• Bug#1105154: vim-airline: Corrupts buffer text in nvim, but only when r

    From J@21:1/5 to All on Mon May 12 14:20:01 2025
    Package: vim-airline
    Version: 0.11-2
    Severity: normal

    Dear Maintainer,

    Running neovim under tmux with the vim-airline package installed results
    in corruption of the displayed buffer.

    To reproduce:

    $ sudo apt install tmux neovim vim-airline

    Start tmux:

    $ tmux

    Then, when in tmux:

    $ nvim

    Press 'i' to enter insert mode, type something, and instead of blanking
    the buffer as expected the welcome text partially stays visible.

    Disabling the airline plugin makes the problem go away.

    I spun up a fresh VM installed from debian-trixie-DI-alpha1 to ensure
    that nothing strange on my machine had led to this.

    I'm not actually sure if this is a bug in tmux, neovim or airline, or
    some combination of the above, and I'm really not sure how to go about
    figuring that bit out. Given the problem only presents with airline,
    I'll raise the bug here and hope I've supplied enough information to
    help get to the bottom of it!

    It seems easily reproducible, but I'm happy to do further testing and
    provide further info if helpful.

    I've been able to reproduce the problem by ssh'ing into a bookworm box
    from trixie via tmux. This therefore means the bug is most likely more appropriately raised against tmux, as I have reproduced it with a known
    good Neovim/vim-airline combination.

    This bug can be closed - and apologies for making noise!
