• MesNews on Win 11?

From Jess Fertudei@21:1/5 to All on Sun Dec 31 13:41:12 2023
Can anyone tell me if my MesNews is compatible with Windows 11?

Also, if it is, is there a simple way to transfer it all from Win7?

    Thanks

i much prefer 40tude Dialog, but Mesnews also installs normally and works
great on Windows 11 . . . simply copy the whole mesnews folder works also

    (using Tor Browser 13.0.8)

thanks so much. i did install... copying from win7 was easier said than
done. i wanted to rename the old one mesnewsold and then replace, but
all of the hidden folder and write only stuff that win11 tried to hide
from me, was driving me nuts. i reisted this change for a looooong time
and now i remember why. gonna have to look around and see what i have
to do to make a usefull file system out of this mess without all the
    added heasdache,

nonetheless, it is installed and all of muy old accounts and etc are
    moved and functioning.

    thanks again.

nice! windows 10/11 seems unnecessarily complicated and less user-friendly
than its predecessors, e.g., to install a program from "unknown publisher"
it makes you click personalize ... privacy & security ... windows security ...reputation-based protection ... app & browser control ... check app and files ... switch (temporarily, rather permanently) to "off" ... and voila! also, and every program i've tested that runs on win 7 also runs on win 11,
but some essential programs, like tor browser, will soon nix win 7 support

Q: Is it possible to move Mesnews on a removable disk or an USB stick
and let it work on another pc?

A: Yes, it is possible with your own version of MesNews, you can take
your settings and all newsgroups with you because Mesnews stores the
data in its own folder. Because of this is it possible to take it away
(on a ZIP drive or an USB key for example) and let it work on an other
machine without writing data into your register or on your hard drive. _end-quote_

Seems like MesNews is very portable. Can't help with Win 11 tho', never
    used that OS.

I run it with no problems in Win11.
