• [mesnews] remove x-post & English translation

From Ammammata@21:1/5 to All on Thu Sep 26 08:52:15 2024
when I reply to a xpost the program warns me
so I remove all the groups except one, confirm, send and... it's still
    xpost, but no more warnings

this one too: the "Concept" word in the English translation is
misleading, IMHO "Draft" is much more better ;-)

    Anton Shepelev expressed precisely :
do you imply that the unnamed program
you are talking about does not obey your orders and insists on
cross-posting to groups you have removed

this one: I tried removing all additional unwanted newsgroups and send,
and removing all, confirm, add the desider one, send: still xpost, it
keeps in memory all the original newsgroups

for sure I'm missing something :oÞ

What program[1]? Cross-posting is often considered bad practice, unless
you specify a Followup-To: header with a single group in which the
    discussion is to continue.

and... it's still xpost, but no more warnings

If you left only one group in the Newsgroups: header, it is no
longer an cross-post. Or do you imply that the unnamed program
you are talking about does not obey your orders and insists on
cross-posting to groups you have removed?

this one too: the "Concept" word in the English translation is
misleading, IMHO "Draft" is much more better ;-)

[1] The title mentiones `mesnew', but the subject does not, which
is bad: the subject should generalise the body, not
supplement it. In other words, the message body should be
a self-sufficient unit of information, independently of the
    subject.

Subject = "title" and it says 'mesnewS'.

    which

supplement it. In other words, the message body should be

What are you on about? Everybody knows the OP is talking about MesNews.

You can try and report this to Arnaud. There's a contact form here: <https://www.mesnews.net/gb/contact2.php>

Or you can use your newsreader and post it on the internal MN
    newsgroups:
    <news://news.zoo-logique.org/MesNews.International>

I meant the /body/ does not mention `mesnews'.

    which
is bad: the subject should generalise the body, not
supplement it. In other words, the message body should be

I understood it too, but not right away. My point is that the
article /subject/ shall not be necessary to understand the /body/.
In other words, the body should be fully understandable in itself,
and the subject should express the essense of the message, but it
should not /add/ new information to it.

    You nailed it!

In German, this is a total curveball both ways:

The English "concept" often gets turned into "Konzept", when
really "Begriff" or "Idee" is what you're looking for.

On the flip side, the German "Konzept" is often best translated
as "draft", like you picked up on, but people keep barking
up the wrong tree with "concept."

(Daniel Oberle spilled the beans on this about 23 years ago,
but he's since taken his two cents off the web.)
