This is a feast that one rarely sees laid out.
The historical setting and dramatic backdrop are
seconded by the human relationships between the
two leading actors Hepburn and OToole, and to a
lesser extent between the group of parents,3 sons
    and OToole's lover.
The overall performance might have been better for
me if Hepburn's somewhat limited voice range could
have carried the emotion better to compensate for the
slightly stone-faced effect she gave, possibly due
to the white cloth surround to her face.
While I say that, the moments when she showed a tear
were as effective as could be.
I think she still demonstrated that hers was as good
a performance as I've seen her give.
Watching it demanded my fullest attention, but I finished
with the feeling it had been so worth it.
p.s. I never understood the dislike people have had for
Timothy Dalton. With the role as manipulative King of
    France I found him faultless.
