    Hey,

Sometimes you just have to get back to mother earth. While I was raised on Hollywood films, it would be the Italians who made me love the movies. It started with Michelangelo Antonioni's L'Avventura when I was a teenager and continues to this day.
Along the way I discovered Federico Fellini and got lost in a tragic and comedic universe that didn't seem to have a beginning or an end. When I hit a wall in terms of watching films, I always go back to the Italians and in this case Fellini and one of
my favorite films of all time.

The story surrounds a writer for a gossip magazine – this film introduced the term “paparazzi” – and his week of wonders among the rich, famous, and crowds of wannabes, stalking Rome's nightlife. It concerns itself with fame although with
Fellini there is always a dark shadow waiting to spread across the soul of the film. This is essential viewing and brilliant stuff. This is why I go to the movies.

Directed by Federico Fellini from a script by Fellini, Ennio Flaiano, Tullio Pinelli, Brunello Rondi, and Pier Paolo Pasolini. Cinematography by Otello Martelli with music by Nino Rota. Starring Marcello Mastroianni, Anita Ekberg, Anouk Aimée, Yvonne
Furneaux, Magali Noël, Alain Cuny, and Nadia Gray.

    Ebert's favorite film:
