Charade is an interesting mix of a mid 60s action spy-thriller and a
silly comedy. It's got a lot of stylishness to it, and Audrey Hepburn
is, as usual, a delight. Gary Grant seems a bit stereotypical, and I
notice he stopped making movies soon after this. The reviews at the time commented on how violent some of the scenes were in this fun movie.
I had real trouble with the silliness of the movie. I guess this
silliness is an aspect of Hollywood movies that some people admire. For
me, though, it makes the movie seem awfully dated.
One critic compared the tone of Charade to that of North By Northwest,
but don't see that at all. North By Northwest had humorous scenes but it
was a very intense movie. Charade is fluff.
