There was letter in today's Detroit Free Press Feedback file. It
seems that a certain Ken Zimmerman from Huntington Beach, CA is upset
by the dearth of women in the Hall.. He then goes on to list a number
of "notables" that he thinks should be in. Such notables as Barbra
Streisand, Natalie Cole, Bette Midler, Joen Baez, Mary Travers, Patti
Page and Petula Clark. lol Add Patsy Kline too.
He complains about Carole King and Diana Ross who are already in. King
as a songwriter and Ross as a Supreme. I can see a case for Ross but
King?
He and scarlotti should get together as he thinks Connie Francis
belong there too. The rest of his list consists of Mary Wells, Whitney Houston, the Marvelettes, Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Dionne
Warwick, the Carpenters (Karen) , Cher, Annie Lennox and the Pointer
Sisters. Other than Houston and perhaps the Pointers
would any of these merit serious consideration? Janet Jackson?
Certainly not the Carpenters or Cher.

I think Whitney Houston's *mother* should be inducted (with the Sweet >Inspirations). As "sidemen" if not for their work under their own name.
And what's so strange about the idea of Cher being inducted? She had a lot >of hits. I'm not a fan, but she did have a lot of hits....like at least 25 >of them.
I don't know, it's difficult. I was very happy Linda Ronstadt was finally >inducted, but unfortunately I think they only inducted her because of her >illness.
There are an awful lot of female pop stars nowadays, but I don't know
whether they're actually "rock and roll" stars?
Then again, Doug, if they inducted Miles Davis and Leonard Cohen, wouldn't >you say anything goes? Why *not* Streisand? (I can't stand her singing >voice, but I can't stand Miles Davis or Leonard Cohen either.)

lot
Cher might have chartered a bunch and Ilike a few but I don't take her seriously as a singer. If not for what
she wore or should I say didn't, having married Sonny and Greg, various affairs with Gene Simmons, the bagel boy would we even know
who she was/is?

I was never a big fan, but Cher was the talented half of Sonny & Cher. And >how can three #1 and one #2 hits be dismissed?
Even you must have heard of "Moonstruck" and "The Mask."

I'd vote for Barbara Lynn and Bonnie Raitt, two guitar slingers.
I was just thinking of Bonnie Raitt yesterday, because of this
thread, then assumed that surely she's already in there. But I
don't know.
I think the first two are there, but that's mostly a guess.
I'd estimate the only eligible female-ish acts I'm avid about who have a >snowball's chance in hell of being inducted are:
Tori Amos, Laurie Anderson, the Bangles, Kate Bush, Petula Clark,
Cocteau Twins, Cowboy Junkies, Marianne Faithfull, P J Harvey, Hole,
Rickie Lee Jones, My Bloody Valentine, Sinead O'Connor, Yoko Ono, the
Pixies, 10000 Maniacs, Suzanne Vega, X and Yo La Tengo.
Here are the women (and all-female groups) who are already in.
Blondie, Performer
