I couldn't get two verses out of either interpretation. So you can
view this as a song with two mostly-unrelated parts or as two
    fragments.

    Title: 9 To 5
ttto: 9 To 5 by Dolly Parton

We breed for decades, and train for years
Try to make the best of their premiers
The coaches, trainers, jockies all have drive
But it's all worth it; the bets are popping
    I don't think we're gonna be flopping
And the odds on this here horse are 9 to 5

    Well, it's 9 to 5
That this horse will beat all others
    And he ain't no jive
    Even faster than his brothers
    You know he will strive
Give you all that he's got in him
And go just as fast as
    Some horny men chase women

    9 to 5
    Though he's not an odds-on fav'rite
    Comin' down the stretch
Well, you know he's gonna save it
    For that burst of speed
When he gets that winning finish
    It's a feeling that
    Nothing ever will diminish

You're in the office, end of workday
Thinkin' how to live on clerk pay
Thinkin' of the long commute to come
You hope there's no one drops off papers
No phone calls no late-day capers
So there's nothing you must let stand in your way

    Now it's 9 to 5
    Clearing desks and packing cases
    We will come alive
In ten minutes in new spaces
    And the homeward drive
Though you know it ain't relaxin'
    At least it's not this
    Job that's just so taxin'

    9 to 5
    Lookin' busy and clock-watching
    Doing nothing good
But there's nothing that you're botching
    You just hope your boss
    Stays inside that window office
    And you'll get to have
    This evening's bright time-off bliss

Guessing a lyricist's opinions from his songs is as futile as
guessing an author's opinions from his novels.

You could throw in another verse about the score of a sporting event.
Maybe even one about a German who has four drinks but declines to take
    the fifth.

Not a bad idea. But the only game where that score excites me would
be (American) football, and touchbacks are awfully rare (though I did
see, one time, a early score in a game of 5 to 2).

Not a bad idea, but I'd rather not commit myself in print as to what
kind of idea I think it is.

One year when I was in high school, the last game of the season ended
with us losing 2-0. The field was a sea of mud that day, and our star
player slipped and fell in the end zone.

Just this weekend, there was a safety in the Iowa-Nebraska NCAA game and, better, in the NFL, Seattle scored two points by blocking a Washington
extra point and running it back all the way, making the score 9-9. Had Seattle's previous score been a field goal, rather than a touchdown with an extra point, the score would have been 9-5.
