The Wynonie Harris record "Destination Love" seems to have been recorded and released first by the Four Coins of all people. Not on Youtube or that 78-Cylinder site. I wonder what it sounds like.

I think Wynonie's must be first at least as recorded. It's a Leiber & Stoller song written specifically for Atlantic Records under their contract with that company. According to the Wynonie book he recorded it in October 1956.

As to which was released first my guess is Wynonie but both were reviewed in December in Billboard. Do you have anything different to suggest the Coins released it first?

The Cash Box review of Wynonie mentions that it was already out by the Four Coins. That's what started this.

    WYNONIE HARRIS (Atco 6081)

“DESTINATION LOVE” (1:50) [Tiger BMI — Leiber, Stoller]
Wynonie Harries makes his debut on Atco a powerful hunk of material that has been done in pop by The Four Coins.
The reading is strong, Harris lends it a spirited treatment, swinging all the way. The best thing Harris has done in years
    and it could happen.

“TELL A WHALE OF A TALE” (2:16) [Progressive BMI—Miller, Smith]
Harris shouts a slow beat blues in excellent fashion. Another good deck for the wailer. Dramatic treatment. Good
    programming.

I can't find it, but I was surprised to see that the song was written by
    Leiber & Stoller.

Okay if that's what they say

I'd imagine Wynonie probably still recorded it first for the reasons I mentioned earlier

I think their deal was as producers, not songwriters. They wrote like 18 songs for Elvis starting in 1957, as well as "Love Me" and "Hound Dog" which of course were written a couple of years before this time.

It's bad, but not near as bad as I was expecting.
