Samp's really got his head up his ass with this rating.

Unfortunately this early Hollywood Flames release was wrongly included in the 1951 Singles battle. In defence I can only say that getting their records into any kind of order was always a minefield and there wasn't nearly as much discographical material
available back then as there is now

Here's how it did in that Battle

    R1
9 The Hollywood Four Flames - Baby Please - Recorded In Hollywood 165
10 Billy Wright - Hey Little Girl - Savoy 810

And in the later Vocal Groups Encore Battle

    R1
    12 The Coasters -- Wait A Minute -- Atco 6186 -- 1961
2 The Hollywood Four Flames -- Baby Please -- Recorded In Hollywood 165 -- 1951

    SPONTANEOUS LUNACY VERDICT: 3/10

    Ridiculous grading!!

    I have it as a low 8.

Methinks Samp is allowing his obvious dislike and distain for John Dolphin to swamp his judgement here

I don't think it's that. He hates my grandfather as much as any label owner, but most Savoy records do well with him. I think it's more about him deciding that if a release sounds too much like things from the past couple of years it's not as worthy as
something that sounds more cutting edge.

So Diane and I and another couple drove up to Cooperstown, NY on Thursday and viewed the Baseball Hall of Fame on Friday. We got back last evening and nothing at all from Samp while we were gone.
