    Nappy Brown was a very disciplined singer, used his voice as if he was playing an instrument. This guy, by contrast, is all over the place,
    even sometimes off rhythm.

    I didn't say he was very good at it. Only that it sounds to me like Al Silver was looking for his "Nappy Brown" type after Savoy hit with 2 of Nappy 's singles earlier in that year. The style he is TRYING to sing in is very close to what Nappy was doing
    then.
