Rog, is just what Liverpool loo like, or do you see these types of houses everywhere in England?

I think most houses in the Northern areas of the UK looked like these.

Most of my experiences were in London however---in the rich city centre were the big grand well lit houses all looking different (a la USA style)---but I lived in the poverty stricken dockland area of the East End of the city where many of the houses (
like mine) were council constructed and owned---plain and very simple dwellings, often hastily constructed on WW2 bomb damaged land and all looking exactly the same.

Your image, Bruce, is an example of "gentrification" of a previously
much poorer socio-economic area. The article says these new private
dockland houses in 1984 were being snapped up by yuppies as a golden investment: https://www.theguardian.com/money/2020/nov/03/london-dockland-housing-development-presents-an-opportunity-for-yuppies-archive-1984
"In a couple of years {in 1987}, the Docklands Light Railway will be
open and running. Residential Sites such as Luralda Wharf, Dudgeons
Wharf, and Felstead Wharf will be minutes away from 'the City'
{a square mile in the center of London, a major business and financial
center} and 'the West End' {for parklands, theaters and exclusive
    shopping districts}."
