yes, it's hard to rank songs that represent different moods

in this round, after significant consideration, my (uncounted)
    rankings are:

Screaming and Crying - Morris Pejoe
Natural Natural Ditty – The Jewels
    That Love Is You - Flamingos {starts good but gets 'noisy'}
Please Forgive Me - Johnny Ace {uninspired, by the numbers, hints or

I don't think anyone has ever said this here before. I agree 100%.

I guess this is the advantage of numerical ratings. You have a number
for each entry in advance of the matchups so ranking them is purely
    mechanical.

    2. Screaming and Crying - Morris Pejoe - 24

    3. Please Forgive Me - Johnny Ace - 19
    4. That Love Is You - Flamingos - 11

So Roger and Jim are the first to move into Round 2 as the Jewels and the Pejoe ran away from the rest of the group. Mark's Ace took third although it was leaving us even if it had won the group. Rick's Flamingos only got a pathetic 11 points after being
marked last on every ballot but his.

Rick's Plurals and Mark's Bland tied with 21 points, and the Plurals took first place by virtue of being listed higher on 5 of the 8 ballots. Both move into Round 2, joining Roger and Jim. Steve's Junior was third and my Woody was last. I thought that
this Woody was a highly respected track among rockabilly fans, but Roger had it last, so maybe I was wrong about that. Only Jim scored it really well, along with me.

I thought that this Woody was a highly respected track among rockabilly fans, but Roger had it last.

I'm confused by the Roger remark

fwiw, my vote would have been:

    Miss Annie - The Plurals {chugging Caribbean flavored instro backing}
Make Like A Rock And Roll - Don Woody
Lovey Dovey Lovely One - Junior Wells
I'm Not Ashamed - Bobby Bland

so Mr Woody would still have come last

there are two r&b acts from our period that I don't like in general,
    The Olympics, and Bobby Bland

how many rockabilly tracks have reached the last 8 over time?

if, like female vocals, you say it's because of the dearth of
rockabilly nominations, ask yourself why these categories
are rarely nominated - aspirational players know... :)

I can hear that Lightnin' Hopkins was an excellent guitarist, but that
doesn't make me like his records. They just grate on me.

There's only one I like, and it's mostly an instrumental (obviously I

    4. Remember Me - Lightnin' Hopkins - 14

In my usual humble manner I declare that my Cuff-Links won this group. Roger's Kidds took second to also advance to Round 2. Carl's Cherokees were third and Steve's Lightnin' sizzled out and finished last and will be forgotten.

Diane's Waters wins the group while garnering 28 points, which is just 4 points away from a perfect score. So it had 4 firsts and 4 seconds. Jim's Wills takes second place to also advance. My Nappy was a point behind in third and is gone, along with Mark'

Diane wins for the third group in a row!

Her Cashmeres takes first. Roger's Breeding (Thankfully that never happened!) was 2 points behind with just one ballot to go, but it pulled even and won the tie breaker over Carl's Parker by virtue of being ranked higher of 5 of the 8 ballots, so it
stays alive for Round 2. The Parker is out, and Jim's Chimes did not ring at all, scoring just 12 points to finish last.

    Yes, my mistake.

Bad tournament for me, only one of mine is in the SWEET 16. You on the other hand have a great chance for a 4th item in there with "Yours Truly" going tomorrow.

    FINAL RANKINGS

    1. Big Daddy - Jimmy Witherspoon - 23
    2. I'm Wild About You Baby - Lightnin' Hopkins - 21 (3 first place)

    3. Yours Truly – Pee Wee Crayton - 21 (2 first place)
    4. Jingle Jingle - Tremaines - 15

Big Daddy Colegrove wins the group. Carl's Hopkins and Roger's Crayton tied for second, and both were ranked higher on 4 ballots. Hopkins wins the tie breaker by virtue of 3 first place votes while Crayton had just 2 first place votes. So Hopkins stays
in the game, and Crayton is done. Rick's Tremaines were last and they are also leaving us.

    Roger - 4
    Carl - 3
    Diane - 3
    Jim - 3
    Bruce - 1
    Mark - 1
    Rick - 1

Nothing for Steve. I got Roger's count wrong yesterday. If "Yours Truly" had gotten through he would have had all 5 of his nominees still alive. So Roger, Carl, Diane and Jim have dominated the month so far. Round 2 starts tomorrow.

my top 4 in random order,
the instrumentation is one major influence:

#02 Screaming and Crying - Morris Pejoe (2nd in last round)
#10 Blackberry Boogie - Johnnie Lee Wills (2nd in last round)
#13 Love Only You - The Meadowlarks (1st in last round)
#16 I'm Wild About You Baby - Lightnin' Hopkins (2nd in last round)

Muddy Waters will be in the Top 4 I suppose
