In 1962 there was a Sam Cooke album track called "Sugar Dumpling,"
which
wasn't very good. In 1965, 7 months after Sam Cooke's death, a single
was issued on RCA Victor, a much better version of "Sugar Dumpling."
But when was it recorded?
One person on youtube says it was also in 1962 but that seems
impossible; it's so different from the first track.
I have the first "Sugar Dumpling" recorded 15 February 1962 at RCA in Hollywood and first released on the "Twistin' The Night Away" LP later
that year. It did appear on a Living Stereo 33 single as well--"Twistin'
The Night AWay"/"Sugar Dumpling"
The second "Sugar Dumpling" recorded 11 September 1963 at same location
first appears as the single
RCA 47-8631 b/w "Bridge Of Tears" in July 1965
