Are you serious? That was a major chart hit, and it came from your own
damned town!
-------------22. GONNA BE LOVED, Linda & The Epics
Thank you Dean for introducing me to a "newie". Like Diane I wasn't
familiar with this one before. Not bad at all but need to hear it a few
more times. Was this ever booted?

As well as the great "Been So Long" (originally on Mascot before Chess
obtained the master and put it out on their Argo subsid) The Pastels
deserve our eternal thanks for bequeathing to us Big Dee Irwin of
"Swinging On A Star" fame
He also made some good soul records in the '60s and '70s.

I actually introduced Roger Ford to a '50s number he hadn't heard
before? Color me shocked!
I don't know if it was ever booted. What I do know is that it came out
in 1959 on the minuscule Blue Moon label out of Santa Cruz, CA. As I
stated on mike, an original mint condition 45 could pretty much put a
kid through four years of Harvard.

Usually I talk about how much I like this show of familiar records from
my childhood. Today, though, there were NINE records I had never heard >before. Unfortunately I didn't like most of them. But on a positive >note....no Jack Scott this week! ?
These are the ones I didn't know:
has a 'gold star'; later adopted by the Stray Cats2. DOUBLE TALKIN BABY, Gene Vincent & The Blue Caps
Whitburn #190 for 1957 (ie not strictly speaking 'obscure')4. ROSIE LEE, The Mello-Tones
okay for this sub-genre but kinda ordinary12. TO BE A PART OF YOU, The Clickettes
well-known to period rockabilly fans;22. GONNA BE LOVED, Linda & The Epics
this admirable rockin' R&B side has a 'gold star'33. LETS HAVE A BALL, The Wheels
well-known to period rockabilly fans;34. WHISTLE BAIT, The Collins Kids
despite being in my collection I do not recall hearing it before now;36. BELIEVE ME, The Skyliners
three girls and a guy from 1961; bit repetitive, not a keeper37. HEART, DARLING, ANGEL, The Orlons
this slow ballad from 1959, on label End, also has a 'gold star'45. GOODNIGHT SWEETHEART, The Flamingos
Stick to DJing, you know nothing about record collecting. The last copy
of the 45 that was sold on Discogs back in January went for a whopping
$35. They recommend selling a near mint copy for $130. That probably
would not even be enough to pay for the Harvard application.

Bruce, as an expert record collector can you please recommend a few
specific 45s and albums that we should invest in today?

Go buy some gold or something. I want the records to go to collectors
who appreciate them....not to outsiders looking to invest solely to try
and make a profit.

Isn't that what Roger and yourself do, buy records to resell at a
profit - like those reggae albums of late? Perhaps you are a record
trader and not a collector - or both?

Nope. I have friends* who give me things to sell and I take a percentage.
