The latest episode of ROOTS ROCK RADIO is archived until June 30th at
the link below. I soon will archive it permanently at Mixcloud. Here's
    the playlist:

    3. BIP BOP BOOM, Mickey Hawks

One of the very rarest rock 'n' roll records there is! Original copies
on this are credited to "Moon Mullins & His Night Raiders"

The pic here is of a bootleg 45 but here's how the original record
    looked

    6. YOU GOT WHAT IT TAKES, Marv Johnson

Original version on this is by Bobby Parker on Vee Jay recorded in
September 1957 released in May 1958

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfqvfQ9odfU

    7. AIN’T THAT LOVING YOU BABY, Elvis Presley

Original version on this is by Eddie Riff on Dover in 1957

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EtcgcxBwklw

Subsequently recorded by Elvis in June 1958 but not released as a single
    until 1964

    9. SLIPPIN’ AND SLIDIN’, Little Richard

This is generally accepted to be--if not quite the original version of "Slippin' And Slidin'"---at least the main inspiration for the song. I'm talking about Eddie Bo's "I'm Wise" earlier in 1956

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUyj5f3loME

Some push it back further still to 1955 and name this one from Al
Collins on Ace and "I Got The Blues For You" as the original blueprint

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePBwj6mTLBw

    11. BLUE VELVET, The Clovers

Tho Tony Bennett recorded this first in 1951 Arthur Prysock beat him (by
a month) in having the first record released of the song

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YpPD5tLgnw

    18. WILD ONE, Jerry Lee Lewis
    K
Picked up from local rock star Johnny O'Keefe when Jerry appeared with
him on an Australian tour and subsequently recorded his own white hot
version for Sun in 1958 where it criminally languished unreleased in the
vaults for decades before finally seeing the light of day.

Here's the original Johnny O'Keefe version

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6zWX5c5qPY

    27. WOMEN AND CADILLACS, The Nite Riders

HUGE favorite from 1954 that was recently included on here in the "TEN
    FAVE OBSCURITIES FROM...1954" post

    28. STUTTERIN’ CINDY, Charlie Feathers

On one of his US visits Breathless Dan Coffey together with Tom Phillips
(Sam's bro) of Select-O-Hits in Memphis took Charlie Feathers back into
the recording studio and came out with this little gem

    32. JUMPS, GIGGLES AND SHOUTS, Gene Vincent & The Blue Caps

Never on a single in the USA Capitol over here in UK released this Gene
classic as a single in 1957 b/w "Wedding Bells (Are Breaking Up That Old
    Gang Of MIne)"

    34. MIND OVER MATTER, The Diablos (Nolan Strong)

Tho I prefer this original Nolan Strong version,Motown covered this in
1962 with a very similar reading on their short lived "Mel-O-Dy"
subsidiary label with The Pirates (actually the fledgling Temptations)
complete with Eddie Kendricks singing lead

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3HK4oYa03A

    38. MOTORCYCLE, Tico & The Triumphs

Originally on Madison label in 1961 this slice of gibberish just scraped
the BB Hot 100 in early 1962 when reissued on Amy giving Tico aka Jerry
Landis aka Tom (of Tom & Jerry) aka Paul Kane aka True Taylor---and best
known of all as Paul Simon his first taste of chart success

Whatever would that nice Mrs Robinson have said?

    40. GUMBO BLUES, Smiley Lewis

GREAT Smiley track from 1952 one of his VERY BEST EVER!!

    47. THOSE OLDIES BUT GOODIES, Little Caesar & The Romans

For some unknown reason this US Top 10 original version of the memorable
medley wasn't released here in UK at the time. No idea why this happened---Del-Fi had a current distribution deal here so it wasn't
    that.

Nothing wrong with the song either---we got the Nino & The Ebb Tides
cover version released here on Top Rank. The absence here of this major
    US hit remains a mystery

I don't know if you knew this, but "Moon Mullins" was a comic strip
character in the Sunday papers over here.

Yes I remember reading about the newspaper strip which I believe also
appeared in some local UK newspapers.

I don't remember it ever being in a London one and certainly I never saw
    the strip myself.
