Ten fave unreleased tracks chosen from my yearly Favorites lists

    Today………from 1958

CHUCK BERRY – HOUSE OF BLUE LIGHTS https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjfVp90shFY

On 2 May 1958 at Chess Recording Studio on South Michigan Ave in Chicago
as well as waxing his forthcoming hit “Carol” Chuck also recorded a splendid rockin’ revival of the old 1946 staple “House Of Blue Lights” made famous by Freddie Slack & Ella Mae Morse and later redone by
Merrill Moore in 1953 and #9 hit version by Chuck Miller in 1955.

Sadly the track was left to lay in the Chess vaults for many years until rescued at last and Included on Chuck’s double album set “Golden Decade Vol. 3” in 1975

    THE COASTERS – HEY SEXY
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DiOxi7p4L7Y

From the same session on 11 December 1958 that produced “Charlie Brown”
and “I’m A Hog For You” came the amusing “Hey Sexy” (penned by---you guessed it---Jerry & Mike as per usual) that was left to languish in the
Atco vaults for years until it finally appeared on the 2007 Atco/Rhino
set “There’s A Riot Goin’ On”

FATS DOMINO – DARKTOWN STRUTTERS BALL https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3Gv8BXzm6I

Fats’ version of the famous old oldie was cut at Master Recorders in Hollywood on 30 October 1958 with personnel being Fats Domino (vcl, pno),
Walter Nelson (gtr) Frank Fields (bs) Cornelius Coleman (dms) Wendell
Duconge, Buddy Hagans, Lee Allen or Herb Hardesty (sax)

As well as “Darktown Strutters Ball” other tracks from this session cut
    for Imperial included “If
You Need Me”“Hands Across The Table” and his UK hit “Margie”

“Darktown….” remained unreleased for years until 1987 when it appeared
on the LP “Blueberry Hill” on CEMA 8347 containing the tracks Blueberry Hill / My Real Name / I Can’t Go On This Way / Don’t Know What’s Wrong / Whole Lotta Loving / Help Me / If You Need Me / Korea Blues /Darktown Strutter’s Ball / The Prisoner’s Song / It Must Be Love / Jambalaya (On
The Bayou) / Don’t You Know / Don’t Leave Me This Way / I Still Love You

HENRY HALL & THE FIVE BELL-AIRES – MY FRIENDS https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1neCZ98YNY

Beautiful 1958 doowop recording from this group recorded for the John
Rys' Recording Co Associates in Hartford, Connecticut that languished unreleased until rescued by the good folk at Relic Records in Hackensack
NJ and included on their LP “Unreleased Gems Of The 1950’s : The
    Hartford Groups”

ERNIE KADO – THE WAY I DO
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uau3WZxnBz0

GREAT early number by the future “Ernie K-Doe” with a splendid but sadly unknown group ably backing him recorded for Al Silver (and I’m guessing
here) in 1958 (based on his other Silver released single appearing in
early 1959).And (guessing again) I’m assuming that—based on his released Silver single---that this recording would also have appeared on Ember
(and under the artist name as presented above).

So anyone care to clear up the mystery group thing here? Who were they?

And who the hell is this mysterious EvaDStruc femme I wonder????? 😊

JERRY LEE LEWIS – WILD ONE
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=inb1z-qjxIU

In early 1958 Jerry Lee took part in a series of concerts in Australia
with fellow US stars Buddy Holly, Paul Anka and Jodie Sands. The leading
Aussie star on the bill was the big local hero Johnny O’Keefe who was
riding high at the time with his song “Wild One”

Upon return to the US Jerry cut a really pounding version of “Wild One”
at a Sun session April 21/23 1958 with Roland Janes (gtr) Billy Riley
(bs) and J.M Van Eaton (dms) Sadly the song sat unreleased in the Sun
vaults for many years before finally seeing light of day on the UK
Phonogram LP “Rockin’ And Free” in 1974—a truly fantastic collection of hitherto unissued JLL Sun tracks https://www.discogs.com/release/2940153-Jerry-Lee-Lewis-Rockin-And-Free-Previously-Unissued-Sun-Sessions

P.S This JLL song is currently being used over here in UK as the backing
to a TV ad for Persil soap powder

LITTLE MILTON – MY MIND IS TROUBLED

Another unreleased goodie is this decent blues “My Mind Is Troubled”
from Little Milton (here backed by the Oliver Sain band) recorded for
Bobbin in 1958 but never released until 1996 when it appeared on the UK
Ace LP “St Louis Blues Revue”

This number did particularly well in the 2014 Unreleased Battle
    finishing #29 most successful

CARL PERKINS – ROCKIN’ RECORD HOP https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zn_I4S7KZqc

1958 saw Carl complete the move from Sun to the major label Columbia.
From Carl’s very first recording session for the company on 3 February
1958 in Nashville (personnel : Carl Perkins (vcl/gtr) Jay Perkins (gtr)
Clayton Perkins (bs) W.S Holland (dms) Marvin Hughes (pno) that also
produced “Jive After Five” and “Pink Pedal Pushers” comes the pulsating “Rockin’ Record Hop” that missed release as a single and also missed inclusion on Carl’s 1958 Columbia album.

Instead this fine rocker was consigned to the Columbia vaults where it languished for decades before fnally seeing light of day on the album “Restless : The Columbia Years” in 1992.

HUEY “PIANO” SMITH & THE CLOWNS – LOBERTA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=su0rhMcawMU

And yes it is spelt that way….LOBERTA (sic)

With Bobby Marchan up front on vocals this is the prototype for the
famous Frankie Ford version (as “Roberta” of course) that followed
almost immediately---with the Huey & the rest of the Clowns providing
    exactly the same backing track

    What’s not to like?

BTW “Sea Cruise” was also done by Huey & co this exact same way and just
as I prefer Frankie’s slightly retitled “Roberta” flipside to his big “Sea Cruise” hit (tho both are GREAT!) same goes here for “Loberta”

As for release both “Loberta” and “Sea Cruise” debut on wax on the 1971 Ace LP “Huey “Piano” Smith’s Rock & Roll Revival”

    MUDDY WATERS – BORN LOVER

Long time Muddy favorite recorded January 1958 in Chicago featuring
Muddy Waters (vcl, gtr) James Cotton (hca) Otis Spann (pno) Pat Hare
(gtr) Willie Dixon (bs) prob. Fred Below (dms)

First released on Muddy’s LP “Rare And Unissued” (Chess LP CH-9180 in 1984)

Later the song became a staple in the repertoire of George Thorogood &
The Destroyers and featured on their 2009 set “The Dirty Dozen”

From the same session on 11 December 1958 that produced “Charlie Brown” and “I’m A Hog For You” came the amusing “Hey Sexy” (penned by---you
guessed it---Jerry & Mike as per usual) that was left to languish in the
Atco vaults for years until it finally appeared on the 2007 Atco/Rhino
set “There’s A Riot Goin’ On”

It's a real good Coasters side. I assume it was left unre;eased because
someone was afraid the "sexy" lyric would curtail radio play.

GREAT early number by the future “Ernie K-Doe” with a splendid but sadly unknown group ably backing him recorded for Al Silver (and I’m guessing here) in 1958 (based on his other Silver released single appearing in
