Ray Campi - The Man I Met (A Tribute to The Big Bopper) [D 1047] -

    the melody and vocal style is reminiscent of Johnny Ace;
"you send me" is a phrase in the lyrics

Mike Berry & The Outlaws' "Tribute To Buddy Holly" from 1961 (an
imaginative production by the legendary Joe Meek) is a long time fave
of mine. It was rumored that the song was banned by the BBC for being
too 'morbid'. In the US it was released on Coral in Nov 1962.

Canadians Chad Allan and the Reflections, a band that would later
become the Guess Who, recorded "Tribute to Buddy Holly" as their debut
single in 1962 after hearing Berry's version.

My library includes these tributes to Elvis Presley:

01 - Ronnie McDowell - The King Is Gone
    02 - Leon Everette - Goodbye King Of Rock 'N' Roll - 1977 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMnYwpJbfOU
    03 - Odie Palmer - A Letter To Elvis
04 - Elvis Wade - Memories Of The King
05 - Johnny Tollison - Dark Cloud Over Memphis
06 - J.D. Summer - Elvis Has Left The Building
07 - Jimmy Carr - Birth To A Legend; Goodbye To A Friend
    08 - Roger McDowell - Statue Of A King
09 - Jackie Hickox - We'r Sure Gonna Miss You Old Friend
10 - Diana Williams - Goodbye Bing, Elvis and Guy
11 - Barry Tiffin - Candy Bars For Elvis
12 - Jimmy Ellis - He's Gone But Not Forgotten

It's cool that Paul honored Johnny Ace so many years later, but the
    record stinks.

    ------------
It doesn't have a beat and you can't dance to it. It also doesn't have
a melody you can hum along to. What it has going for it is that it
conveys what seems like genuine emotion. It was written shortly after
John Lennon's death and he links his current sorrow to the sorrow he
    felt when Johnny Ace died.

Now that I think of it, didn't Elton John also sing a tribute to Lennon?
Empty Garden? Or was that someone else?
