The latest ROOTS ROCK RADIO is archived at the link below until the
27th. Due to our annual two-week pledge drive, I had to do a lot more
talking than usual. So I had less time for music. I also played mainly familiar chart hits in the hope of garnering more pledges. (To a certain extent, it worked.)

9. JAILHOUSE ROCK, Elvis Presley
Gotta be his best song to come from one of his movies

Loved this movie when it came out getting my first glimpse of the great
Little Richard in action
20. SILHOUETTES, The Rays
Great double sider here b/w "Daddy Cool" Some folk prefer the flipside
but I always gave the nod to "Silhouettes".

Sits at #17 in my "Fave Top 20 By A Vocal Group - 1957" posted here ten

23. THAT’LL BE THE DAY, Buddy Holly & The Crickets
Has to be one of the greatest examples of an artist releasing a much
better version of the same song they did as an earlier release

Sits at #4 in my "Fave Top 20 By A Vocal Group - 1958" posted here

Sits at #13 in my "Fave Top 20 By A Vocal Group - 1960" posted here a

29. IN THE STILL OF THE NITE, The Five Satins
I imagine this one will sit Top Five when I get around to compiling
the inevitable 1956 entry in the "Fave Top 20 By A Vocal Group" series
Never released here as a single it did however show up in a little seen
UK movie production "Sweet Beat" in 1959 that featured several American
record stars of the period (all from Al Silver's Herald/Ember outfit)
and included the Satins doing this number (tho only FOUR of them
actually show up :-). Here's the YT clip
