Congratulations go to Liverpool FC winning the English Premiership
    League title
yesterday for the second time and winning the top flight league
championship title for the 20th time (esqualling the record set by
    Manchester United)

A definitive 5-1 home win at Anfield was enough to seal the deal against
London top flight team Tottenham Hotspur

    Well done Liverpool

And in the famous words of the Anfield crowd in full voice.....

    5-1 is pretty damn definitive for a soccer/football game/match!

    {Liverpool's} definitive 5-1 home win at Anfield {Stadium, April 27}
    was enough to seal the {league championship, with 4 games to spare}
against London top flight team Tottenham Hotspur {aka Spurs}.

Despite an early setback when Dominic Solanke scored for Spurs,
Liverpool quickly turned the tide. Luis Díaz (Columbia) equalized with
a tap-in, followed by a stunning strike from Alexis MacAllister
(Argentina) and a composed finish by Cody Gakpo (Holland), giving
Liverpool a commanding lead before halftime.

In the second half, Mohamed Salah (Egypt) added to the tally with a
brilliant goal, and an own goal by Spurs' Destiny Udogie sealed the
rout. Liverpool's relentless attacking play, combined with their
defensive solidity, left Spurs with little chance to recover. Quite
    the day for the Reds!

Liverpool's tactical adjustments during their 5-1 victory were pivotal
in securing such a dominant result. Manager Arne Slot (Holland)
    implemented a few key strategies:

    1. High Press and Quick Transitions: Liverpool applied relentless
pressure on Spurs' backline, forcing errors and capitalizing on
turnovers. This approach led to quick transitions, allowing players
like Luis Díaz and Cody Gakpo to exploit spaces effectively.

    2. Midfield Control: Alexis MacAllister played a crucial role in
controlling the midfield, both defensively and offensively. His
ability to win tackles and distribute the ball efficiently helped
    Liverpool maintain dominance.

    3. Defensive Compactness: After gaining a comfortable lead, Liverpool
tightened their defensive structure, limiting Spurs' attacking
    opportunities in the second half.

    4. Offensive Freedom for Salah: Mohamed Salah was given more freedom
to focus on attacking, reducing his defensive responsibilities. This
adjustment allowed him to maximize his impact in the final third,
contributing a goal and creating chances.

It was a masterclass in game management! ===============================================

West Ham United had a challenging 2024-2025 season in the Premier
League. They finished 17th, narrowly avoiding relegation. Their
campaign included some highs, such as a 4-1 victory over Ipswich Town,
but also lows, like a 0-5 defeat to Liverpool. Jarrod Bowen, team
captain and England rep., was their standout player, scoring 10 goals
and 9 assists in 32 appearances across all competitions.

The team struggled with consistency, managing only 9 wins out of 33
league matches. Despite their difficulties, they showed resilience in
some games, like their 1-1 draw against Arsenal. However, their
performances in the FA Cup and EFL Cup were short-lived, as they
exited both competitions in the third round.

The post title here reminded me of the very poignant "my eyes are full
of tears" message put up on here way back in 2001 by the then-prolific
member Spade in response to the dreadful happenings in NYC on 9/11 that
    year.

Massive rockabilly fan Spade hailed from Germany (I think) and in
response to the terrible 9/11 NYC attack he posted a very memorable
message of sympathy and 100% total support to brave New Yorkers shared
by all of us on this side of the pond which included citing the full
lyrics of the song "You'll Never Walk Alone" which seemed particularly
    relevant in the circumstances
