There's nothing of his private life on Wiki or other places I looked. I'd be interested to see a fuller biography. I understand he had health issues variously attributed to alcohol and heart trouble or both.

Can you read French? Anyway, here’s a good summary of what biographical information exists

He had two “phases” - pre 1958 and 1958 to when he made his last performances. Christian’s section on the last phase, the swan-song, on that French website is interesting.

There’s a Scriabin Museum Liszt recital - Liszt and Schubert/Liszt. Just awful sound and instrument. But my goodness, if you can bring yourself to listen then, if you’re like me, you’ll think that the music making is really inspired and intense.

Yes - I have good French. Very interesting and full of detail. Seems he suffered from arrhythmia of the heart from an early age and was quite anti-social and introverted. In 1946 he married agin, a pupil of his, but remained on close terms with Scriabin'
s daughter. In 1957 his doctors advised him to give up live recitals. Despite failing health he continued to give recitals until his death in 1961 and this period is regarded as having a special poignancy in his oeuvre. He was diagnosed with intestinal
cancer in 1959 so he knew he had only a short time to live. The legend that he was an alcoholic doesn't seem to have any particular truth, and he refused morphine in his final days so he could play through the pain.

The thresholds for alcoholism designation are/were quite different in
the West and on the other side of the Iron Curtain. ;-)

I know little about playing the piano nor about morphine, but doesn't it makes sense that a touch of the latter would actually help him play through the pain? It's not like he would have been the first drugged musician. I'm having surgery soon and am
looking forward to a little help from my friends.
