Icom customer support
Posted: 25 Feb 2022 09:45 PM PST
https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/t1ph3e/icom_customer_support/
Does anyone have recent experience with icom customer support?
My ic7300 is about 11 months old so still under the 1 year warranty (which
is pathetic for a $1k item). I started getting a horizontal line across my screen about 2 months ago and submitted a service request.
When I submitted on their website I didn’t get any kind of confirmation email, and I never heard anything back from them. I tried to contact them
this week and haven’t had a response by email or phone.
If anyone has experienced with them I would love your advice. Should I have expected to hear back by now and keep poking them? Or should I be patient
and assume it’s just a major backlog and trust that they will take care of
me when my warranty expires in a few weeks?

HF Dipole Antennas - Any Recommendations?
Posted: 25 Feb 2022 05:42 PM PST
https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/t1kkxa/hf_dipole_antennas_any_recommendations/
Hey everyone,
I recently decided to get into HF. I got myself a Yaesu FT-840, but now I
need an HF antenna. I was considering a base vertical antenna, but I have limited outdoor space and wouldnt be able to do that. What I was looking at
was a dipole. There are lots of them out there, but I want to know if
anyone out there has any recommendations. I would want it to do from
160-6M. If its too long would I be able to shorten it? Would 240V home
power lines cause interference? Is there a specific way I would have to
orient it?
Thanks! submitted by /u/relivxd

and not enough knowledge to repair them myself - though I did get pretty
far into recapping the two transceivers. How can I find someone that can professionally repair these units? I am in Texas if it helps. submitted

Working on 20m WAS on FT8..
Posted: 25 Feb 2022 09:50 AM PST
https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/t19yhv/working_on_20m_was_on_ft8/
There are a lot of operators on 20 meters day and night working FT8.
Depending on time and conditions, sometimes you only see a few stations,
other times everybody is right on top of each other.
Because I am trying to get Worked All States, I am noticing a few trends
and I am hoping the fine folks of reddit might be able to offer some advice. First, I am located in central Washington state (Grid CN97) and have not
had many QSOs with my neighboring states. (WA, OR, ID, MT) and the few
contacts I have been able to log dont seem to be returning the favor, I
have a list of those that I plan to send cards to with the "PSE QSL" box checked. Hoping for the best there.
Next, there are a couple of states that dont seem to have FT8 operators on
the 20m band at all. Specifically Iowa and Delaware. I thought Rhode Island
was going to be a problem but I managed a QSO with a station that logged on
QRZ and LoTW. Where are the Iowa and Delaware FT8 guys? They have to exist right?
So, any advice folks might have on the above would be greatly appreciated. Last, I would like to make a request under the premise of friendly
operating practice? Im not trying to start a fight with this, just
something to consider if you work FT8 a lot. Please enter QSOs into your
log book, at least on the most popular free online platforms. The two Im talking about primarily are QRZ and LoTW.
I like to have my QRZ log book up in a browser window when I am operating
and when I make initial contact with a station, I put their callsign into
the "log new contact" box and leave it. Once signal reports and 73s are exchanged, I hit the "Log new QSO" button and enter the signal reports. The timestamp will be within a few seconds of the QSO but if I need to correct
it, I can check the time stamp in the Rx Frequency box in WSJT-X.
Once I am done operating for the day, or planning to take a long break, I
check the boxes to the right of all of the QSOs I have just logged and
export those. QRZ emails me an ADI file of those entries that I can then
upload to LoTW using the TQSL program. Its pretty fast and convenient.
Thanks all, I look forward to Reddits input!

How can I give my amp enough input?
Posted: 25 Feb 2022 07:16 PM PST
https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/t1ml4k/how_can_i_give_my_amp_enough_input/
So I picked up a commercial FM VHF amplifier to repurpose for 2m, and the seller proved to me that it works. The problem is that I don’t have a radio that has the power to drive it (that’s my diagnosis, I might be wrong though).
It’s supposed to be something on the order of 45W in, 150W out, but my
radio only puts out about 10 watts or so.
Would anybody have any advice about filling this power gap that I’ve got?
If it can fit the budget of a broke college student, that’d be even better. Thanks guys! :) submitted by /u/Professor_Stank
