as a new technician since yesterday, I'm looking at the Anytone 878II Plus.
I have a Uv-5R and it does ok except for the squelch and that really bugs
me. I want a real HT that I can learn on and have for a long time. Do you
think the 878 is too advanced or do you think I'd do ok?

    Yaesu FT-920 repair

    Posted: 23 Mar 2022 09:03 AM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/tkxtgp/yaesu_ft920_repair/

How complicated is to repair Yaesu FT-920 with FT-8 on 40m, 30m, 20m with
the low power out (50W Max) NO output on 15m and up. 10m and 6m have a high
SWR internally. I saw capacitor kit and I read that most issues are related
    to contacts. submitted by /u/tritron

I’m looking for a product similar to a Motorola dlr but with greater range
    ~ 1-2 miles.
I realize that this might not be the appropriate sub for this question so
if someone could guide me in the right direction that would also be really helpful. submitted by /u/yoloswaggggggggg

Kenwood discontinues the TS-990S, citing ongoing supply chain shortages

    Posted: 22 Mar 2022 02:25 PM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/tkdkqd/kenwood_discontinues_the_ts990s_citing_ongoing/

No press release from Kenwood has been published yet announcing the
products EOL, but domestic amateur retailers in Japan were recently
notified that this model is going away, so this seems like an accurate
report. Kenwood seems to have specifically cited the difficulty in
obtaining parts as the reason for the decision.
This wasnt exactly a model that flew off the shelves given the price, but
it sucks to see yet another radio fall victim to the global supply chain issues.
Kenwood have previously gone on record saying that they will announce new products in 2022, so it will be interesting to see what they have in the pipeline after having discontinued so many products (TH-D72, TH-D74,
TM-D710G) in the past two years. https://www-hamlife-jp.translate.goog/2022/03/21/ts990-vr160-discontinued/?_x_tr_sl=auto&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en-US&_x_tr_pto=wapp

    Car Install Question

    Posted: 22 Mar 2022 10:29 PM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/tkmvhq/car_install_question/

I recently pulled about 15’ of wire through my car to power a CB and dual band ham radio. However, without the radios connected, I go to the engine
bay and do a continuity test across both wires (because I’m paranoid), my multimeter briefly suggests a dead short and then infinite resistance a
second after. Why? Is this normal? Thanks! Also, My ohmmeter says open
    line. submitted by /u/diodes123

    Usb wall outlets?

    Posted: 22 Mar 2022 05:42 PM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/tkhqth/usb_wall_outlets/

does anyone know how well USB wall outlets do filtering RFI? I am moving in
a month or so into my first house and was thinking of replacing a few of
the outlets with something like this one. https://www.amazon.com/ELEGRP-Receptacle-Charger-Samsung-Android/dp/B08Y8CDDG5/
i want to keep as much noise off of medium wave and hf as possible and
thought these could be better than crappy wall warts. submitted by /u/shortwavesurfer2009

Need advice on putting a 220V receptacle in my shack for a future linear
    amp (USA)

    Posted: 22 Mar 2022 10:09 PM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/tkmkzq/need_advice_on_putting_a_220v_receptacle_in_my/

As the title states, I’m mid-process of rebuilding my workshop / ham shack from scratch. I pre-ran coax, rotator cables, station ground, the whole
nine yards before we put drywall up… and then this week on the local
repeater someone asked me if I ran any 220V for a future linear amp. I was
like deer in headlights. I don’t own a linear at the moment, so RTFM is not an easy response. I’m also not clear which one I would be buying as this purchase could come further down the line. I’d like to ask my electrician
to put a 220V in while we have a good opportunity to do it now.
For anyone with a linear amp out there, even 1.5kW, how beefy of a circuit
is required to operate? A 220V 20A? 30A? 50A? Is there any harm in going overkill and having to dumb it down later when I make my purchase?
    Appreciate any insight or thoughts.
Thank you in advance! submitted by /u/ChrisToad

    Unlicensed radio for Greece/EU use

We (US citizens) will be vacationing in Greece with friends. It would be
handy to have a License-free radio for communication and rendezvous
purposes. I see the RADIODDITY PR-T1 (PMR 446) as an equivalent to the US
FRS service. Am I reading this right? Can I buy these in the US for use in Greece & EU generally? Short range is fine for my purposes. https://www.radioddity.com/products/radioddity-fs-t1-pr-t1 submitted by /u/scouter

A hand with signalink multi rig setup

    Posted: 22 Mar 2022 02:01 PM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/tkd1de/a_hand_with_signalink_multi_rig_setup/

I recently picked up the signalink usb box to use with my ts-450. No
problems with that. What I am now wondering is if I can use it with my
anytone 778uv for working digital in uhf or am I going in the qrong
direction? I was thinking since the AT is a rj45 mic connector that I would simply make my own connector cable. My question is mostly if this is
viable. If it is, I have the pin outs for each side so I can simply swap
the pin outs on the cable side so I dont have to open the signa box up and
swap those. One approach I am thinking of is to insert a female jack in the middle(of the cat5 line) so I can use the Mic while the box is connected.
Would this be feasible or should I be going in a different direction?

    New HAM Buying Guidance FT-857D

    Posted: 22 Mar 2022 06:08 PM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/tki9b0/new_ham_buying_guidance_ft857d/

Recent addition to the amateur world. I was able to find an unused FT-857D
on the second hand market. I already have MFJ-4225MW power supply & a tram 1477-b laying around, not setup.
Any additional components advice to use my new to me rig mobile & as office base station?
I’m eyeing LDG Z-100PLUS for tuning. I’d like to run 2m/70cm & HF in the house & truck so additional antennas will be decided on. submitted by /u/7m0ss
