    10m opening - Interesting recording

    Posted: 26 Apr 2022 02:32 AM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/uc8m3w/10m_opening_interesting_recording/

    Hello everyone!
Last weekend I was experimenting with my radio on the 10 meter band, when I came across this transmission. I recorded and analysed it. It turned out to
be the Quadir OTH (Over the horizon) Radar array from Iran. I was surpised, because it is over 3000km away from my QTH.
I made three redordings on Sunday. The signals frequency (from around
27.5Mhz to 28.2MHz) and bandwith changed a lot.
This system is quite special, because it uses pulse modulation. The signal
can be quite wide (in some cases even 1MHz). It uses two sweep rates, 870
and 307 sweeps/sec. You can "hear" the change in sweep rate in the
    recording here.

I also included some spectograms for you to verify my claims.

Need ideas for my first HF antenna. Some restrictions....

    Posted: 26 Apr 2022 05:51 AM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/ucbul5/need_ideas_for_my_first_hf_antenna_some/

    Its for my office downtown.
Single story building with a flat roof. No trees, or anything laterally I
can connect to, so it needs to only be within the confines of about 30feet
    x 30feet.
Kinda nervous about drilling into the flat roof for leaking reasons, but I
can have a roofer come seal it if need be.
Probably not going to be able to go very high because of risk of wind
ripping whatever base I put together out of the roof.
    Any ideas? submitted by /u/Coctailer

    ROC(M) license for HAM?

    Posted: 26 Apr 2022 05:57 AM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/ucbyxp/rocm_license_for_ham/

Hey, Im new to the radio world so apologies for my noob question.
I got my ROC(M) license for VHF but noticed it also covers MF and HF. Would
I be able to somehow get a call sign in Canada with my ROC-M for HAM or do
    I also need another course/license?
How should I go about this? Thanks! submitted by /u/YakAffectionate295

25mm high-density plastic ammo cans make great ham radio go boxes. I have included a link to a how-to guide on building one and a source for the 25mm plastic ammo cans. This particular can doesnt rust, is waterproof, and is crush-proof.

Need First Mobile Radio Purchase Guidance

    Posted: 26 Apr 2022 04:12 AM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/uca2yh/need_first_mobile_radio_purchase_guidance/

Im a new HAM (General) and have been playing around with a BTECH UV-5X3 and Echo Link. Ive been researching my first mobile radio and have it narrowed
    down to two:
    Yaesu FTM-400DR
    Yaesu FTM-6000R
With the increased price, it looks like FTM-400DR gives more bang for the
buck. I will also look at reviews online but I wanted to check with the
experts here. Does anyone have either of these radios? Do you like them?
Any other guidance or gotchas a new HAM might not be aware of? Thanks in advance. submitted by /u/DahBizomb
