Do you guys think this is an upgrade from the BF-F8HP / UV-5R? Didnt want
to get something too expensive, but honestly I just wanted the screen. ( I
know theyre still CHINA radios :P) Any better suggestions around 100-200
    price range?

My first straight key from 1966.

While digging through a box looking for my Nye iambic paddles I found my
first straight key from 1966. Its an EF Johnson key. I had mounted it on a
2 pound piece of brass so it wouldnt move while pounding out 5WPM. It
    cleaned up well.

I mean, wouldn’t a video transmitter be considered a message forwarding system? submitted by /u/Enthusiast9

POTA inside of the National Radio Quiet Zone?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2022 08:41 AM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/vpugr4/pota_inside_of_the_national_radio_quiet_zone/

TIL about the National Radio Quiet Zone. Does POTA or the US government restrict POTA operations inside the parks in the zone? I see there are several.. Just curious. submitted by /u/n3yqg

Hello all, wanting to get started.

    Posted: 02 Jul 2022 10:28 AM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/vpwqru/hello_all_wanting_to_get_started/

So as the title says I am looking and have been looking around for some
time now regarding getting started with HAM radios. With that said I do
have a few simple questions. First, the test is to get licensed im aware of that but, what comes with the license? I am guessing thats where you get
your handle from and make it possible to verify to others you are a
licensed user. Second, I was curious if anyone has ever taken the test
online and if so what did or who did you use to do so. Third, starter equipment, ive seen so much online about this or that but, its generally
from reviews and reviewers regarding paid advertisement. Any information on that would be lovely as a long time reddit user this group of peoples are
my safe place to come for questions and others point of view. Lastly, any
tips in this adventure will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance,
    KP. submitted by /u/Burneruno

    Using multiple XCVRs with D-Star

    Posted: 02 Jul 2022 10:55 AM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/vpxa87/using_multiple_xcvrs_with_dstar/

I have a D74 which works well with the local D-Star repeaters. I picked up
an IC-705 recently and am trying to also get it working.
From what I can tell, I need to register it with the D-Star system. So I
have an entry that looks like KD5LPB A
The D74 entry looks like KD5LPB
    My callsign on the 705 in the D-Star settings is KD5LPB A / 705
But Im not sure that its working. I cant seem to find anyone to have a QSO with. When I try to link to a reflector, I get this message back: RPT? submitted by /u/minorsecond
