THE SANDTON ARC POWER HOUR TECH TALK ON THURSDAY
The Sandton ARC Power Hour Tech Talk at 19:00 CAT on Thursday 28 July will
cover QSO logging... Why, Where, and How. Call-ins will start at 18:4
5 CAT and all are welcome. This talk is perfect for all Amateurs or Elmers
who want to learn more about logging and the modern logging tools or shar
e their knowledge and experience.
Our special guest is well known to many, Noel ZR6DX, the SARL/ICASA gu
ru amongst his many other talents. Noel will be showing us, yes showing
us, as this will be our first ever hybrid Tech Talk, where we use our
repeater and Echolink channels, together with Zoom. We expect that the
talk will cover several logging programs, various websites, eQSL card
s, and even Logbook of The World (LoTW), but part of the excitement is
not knowing exactly what Noel intends to cover. What we do know, is tha
t it is sure to be interesting.
Bring along your questions and answers and come and both see and hear how
best to maximise the benefits of your own QSO logging. Please connect via

BACAR 10
The launch of BACAR 10 is planned for Saturday 8 October from the Trichard
t Dam Yacht Club near Secunda. What is BACAR? It is a Balloon Carrying Ama
teur Radio. There is an element of â-˜roughing it' with lots
of space for your tent or caravan with showers and ablutions available an
d 220 V for your radio. Braai facilities are available but bring wood or c harcoal. The cost is R40 per person per night, but you need to book. Ple

TEN AMATEUR RADIO CUBESATS DEPLOYED FROM THE ISS
On Thursday 21 July, during a spacewalk by Samantha Cristoforetti, IZ0
UDF, and Oleg Artemyev, ten amateur radio CubeSats were deployed from
the International Space Station. On his website Dmitry Pashkov, R4UAB r
eports that during extravehicular activities (VKD-54), Russian cosmonaut
Oleg Artemyev deployed ten Russian small spacecraft (MKA) - SWSU-55 No 1
to 8 and "Tsiolkovsky-Ryazan 1" and "Tsiolkovsky-
Ryazan 2" according to the programme of the space experiment â
"Radioskaf." The SWSU series satellites were developed at the
Research Institute of Space Instrumentation (part of Roscosmos) and radio -electronic systems of Southwestern State University (SWSU). Listen to Sat ellite Update in Amateur Radio Today for more information about these sate llites.

The 2022 Diary of Events shows that on Saturday 30 July, the Pretoria AR
C is holding another of their Flea Markets. Unfortunately, the News Team
has no further information, please contact the Club for more detail.
CONTEST NEWS
The RSGB Islands on the Air contest is on the air from 12:00 UTC on Saturd
ay to 12:00 UTC on Sunday 31 July with CW and phone activity on 80, 40
, 20, 15 and 10 metres. You will find the rules at www.rsgbcc.org/hf/r ules/2022/riota.shtml.
The aim of the SARL HF Contests is for participants to contact as many ama teurs in Southern Africa as possible on the 20, 40 and 80 m amateur band
s using phone, RTTY and CW.
The HF Phone contest will be held on Sunday 7 August and the activity is s pread over three periods - between 14:00 to 14:30 UTC activity is
on 20 metres, from 15:00 to 16:00 UTC activity is on 40 metres and from
16:30 to 17:00 UTC activity is on 80 metres. You can take part as a Singl
e Operator, Single Radio, Single Band station, a Single Operator,
Single Radio, All Band station, a Multi Operator, Single Band stati
on or a Multi Operator, All Band station. YL and Youth stations must cle
arly mark their logs as YL or Youth.
A trophy is awarded to the Phone contestant in his or her first year of ph
one achieving the highest score. Candidates for this trophy shall state th
e date of the issue of the licence on the summary sheet. Get all the infor mation on page 62 in the 2022 SARL Contest Manual and read the General Rul
es in the Manual.
Fourteen logs were received for the SARL Newbie Contest held on Saturday 2
July 2022. This contest is for the new radio amateurs following the May R
AE. Five of the logs are from Newbies and the other nine are from no more
Newbies.

PROPAGATION REPORT
Hannes Coetzee, ZS6BZP, reports that solar activity is expected to be
at low levels. There are currently 8 sunspots with simple magnetic config urations visible. There is a high probability for C-class and a low probab ility for M-class flaring. If you want to do your own frequency prediction
s, the expected effective sunspot number for the week will be around 61.
The 15 to 30 m bands will, especially late afternoon, provide some go

Die lansering van BACAR 10 word vir Saterdag 8 Oktober vanaf die Trichardt

Die doel van die SARL HF-kompetisies is dat deelnemers soveel as moontlik
amateurs in Suider-Afrika op die 20, 40 en 80 m amateur bande kontak de
ur middel van telefoon, RTD en GG.
Die HF Foon-kompetisie word op Sondag 7 Augustus gehou en die aktiwiteit i
s oor drie periodes versprei - tussen 14:00 tot 14:30 UTC is die a

an foon wat die hoogste telling behaal het. Kandidate vir hierdie trofee m
oet die datum van die uitreiking van die lisensie op die opsommingsblad aa ndui. Kry al die inligting op bladsy 62 in die 2022 SARL-Kompetisiehandlei
ding en lees die Algemene Reëls in die Handleiding.
Veertien logstate is ontvang vir die SARL Newbie-kompetisie wat op Saterda
g 2 Julie 2022 gehou is. Hierdie kompetisie is vir die nuwe radio amateurs
wat die Mei RAE geskryf het. Vyf van die logs is van Newbies en die ander
nege van nie meer Newbies nie.
