THE EARLY MORNING COFFEE QSO PARTY ON WEDNESDAY

The second leg of the Early Morning Coffee QSO Party is on the air from 04
:00 to 05:00 UTC on Wednesday 12 October 2022. It is a phone only QSO Part
y on 40 and 80 metres, with 3 651 to 3 699 kHz and 7 100 to 7 130 kHz co
ntest free. Here is an opportunity to collect grid squares for your Worked
All ZS Grid Square Award. The exchange is a RS report, you name and cal
l sign, your age category and your grid square. Submit your log sheet in
MS Excel only by 21:59 UTC on Monday 17 October 2022 by e-mail to zs3vdk@ webmail.co.za (mailto:zs3vdk@webmail.co.za) . All the information is on pa
ge 33 of the 2022 Blue Book. Yes, you do need a mug of coffee before mak

CONTRIBUTING TO SARL NEWS

Every Sunday the invitation to Clubs and individuals to submit news items
of interest to radio amateurs and shortwave listeners, in both English
and Afrikaans, if possible, is sent out. But nobody accepts the invit
ation, and the only news item guaranteed each week is the propagation re
port. On many Friday evenings it is the only item in the News Inbox. This
tells me that many of the Clubs are not functioning - no meetings are hel
d, no projects, no outings, nothing. At least I know the Sandton ARC
is on the go, because they submit regular items for SARL News. What abo
ut the Clubs hosting contests? Do you submit an item before the contest to
advertise the event? No, WhatsApp does not work, so go to www.sarl.or g.za/NewsInbox.asp and submit your news item. Do it by Friday morning, s
o that the bulletin writer can send the bulletin for proofreading by Frida
y evening, and it can be uploaded to the SARL News web site by Saturday
morning.

GETTING ON THE AIR FOR JOTA AND CQ HOU KOERS

The 65th Jamboree on the Air takes place from Friday 14 October to Sunday
16 October 2022. Over the same period, the Jamboree on the Internet or
JOTI will also be active. The Voortrekker Movement will hold their CQ Hou
Koers event on Saturday 15 October. Many Scouts, Scouters and Voortrekk
ers are licenced radio amateurs, but they may be involved with the Scout /Voortrekker side of the programme, so they need radio amateurs to help
set-up a station and supervise the Scouts and Voortrekkers on the air.

But before you volunteer to help the Scouts and Voortrekkers, you need t
o register the station as an educational station or a special event statio
n. The two forms to do this can be found at www.sarl.org.za/public/Forms.a
sp and after completing the form, it must be sent to Kelley at the NARC
on e-mail admin@sarl.org.za (mailto:admin@sarl.org.za) . Now you can cont
act your local Scout Group, Guide Company or Voortrekker Commando and ge

THE 7P8CW DXPEDITION - NOVEMBER 2022

The 7P8CW DXpedition team will be at the Bird Haven Guesthouse (KG41AD) in
Hlotse, in the Leribe district from 1 to 9 November 2022. Hlotse is abo
ut 18 km from Ficksburg. They will be on the air from 2 to 7 November with
activity on 80, 40, 20, 17, 15, 12 and 10 metres using CW, SS
B and MGM. The team is Gert, ZS6GC and Elna, ZS6EB; Mike, ZS6MSW and
Erika, ZS6ESW; Lucas, ZS6ACT and Magda, ZS6MMS and Sid, ZS5AYC/7P
8ST and Adele, ZS5APT/7P8AT. The daily logs will be uploaded to QRZ.com
and later to Clublog and LoTW.

THE WESTERN CAPE REPEATER NETWORK IS GETTING READY FOR THE FESTIVE SEASON

The Western Cape Repeater Network is regularly serviced and maintained and
is especially there for visitors to the Southern and Western Cape for use
during their holidays and the Christmas break is not that far away! In th
e George and Mossel Bay area are the 145,700 and 145,600 MHz repeaters
and in the Still Bay area you can use the 145,625 MHz repeater.

From Riversdal to Piketberg, there are several repeaters that can be con nected via DTMF.

The link between Riversdale and George is currently out of order due to a
lightning strike but will hopefully be restored soon. There are also seve
ral UHF repeaters available.

If you are going to visit the Western and Southern Cape, get all the inf ormation at www.wcrwg.co.za. Coverage maps of the repeaters as well as the
various DTMF codes are available there. Also note that most repeaters are
on Narrow FM and require a CTCSS tone of 88,5 Hz. The WC Repeater Group
would welcome your support!

PROPAGATION REPORT

Hannes Coetzee, ZS6BZP, reports that the solar activity is expected to
be at low levels. There are currently 7 sunspots with simple to complex m agnetic configurations visible. There is a high probability for C-class an
d a low probability for M-class flaring. If you want to do your own freque
ncy predictions, the expected effective sunspot number for the week will
be around 101. The 10 to 30 m bands may provide some good DX fun especial

Elke Sondag word die uitnodiging aan Klubs en individue uitgestuur om nuus berigte aan radio amateurs en kortgolfluisteraars in beide Engels en Afrik aans, indien moontlik, in te stuur. Maar niemand aanvaar die uitnodigi
ng nie, die enigste nuus item wat elke week gewaarborg word, is die vo ortplantings verslag. Baie Vrydagaande is dit die enigste item in die Nuus -inkassie. Dit sê vir my dat baie van die Klubs nie funksioneer nie
- geen vergaderings word gehou, geen projekte, geen uitstappi
es, niks. Ek weet darem die Sandton ARK is aan die gang, hulle stuur g
ereeld items vir SARL Nuus in. Wat van die Klubs wat gasheer is vir kompet isies? Dien julle 'n item voor die kompetisie in om die geleentheid te adv erteer? Nee, WhatsApp werk nie, gaan na www.sarl.org.za/NewsInbox.asp

Die 65ste Jamboree op die Lug vind plaas vanaf Vrydag 14 Oktober tot Sonda
g 16 Oktober 2022. Oor dieselfde tydperk sal die Jamboree op die Internet
of JOTI ook aktief wees. Die Voortrekkerbeweging hou op Saterdag 15 Oktob
er hul CQ Hou Koers-geleentheid. Baie Padvinders, Padvinder-leiers en Vo ortrekkers is gelisensieerde radio amateurs, maar hulle kan by die Padvi nder/Voortrekker-kant van die program betrokke wees, so hulle benodig ra
dio amateurs om te help om 'n stasie op te rig en toesig te hou oor die Pa dvinders en Voortrekkers op die lug.

Maar voordat jy aanbied om die Padvinders en Voortrekkers help, moet jy
óf die stasie as 'n opvoedkundige stasie of 'n spesiale geleentheid-

Die Wes-Kaapse Herhalernetwerk word gereeld gediens en in stand gehou en i

rkoms van C-klas fakkels en 'n lae moontlikheid van M-klas sonfakkels. Die
gene wat hulle eie frekwensievoorspellings wil doen, kan 'n verwagte eff ektiewe sonvlektelling van 101 vir die week gebruik. Radio amateurs kan ve
