ZS18MOTH ACTIVE ON REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY
The South Cape Amateur Radio Club will operate ZS18MOTH on Remembrance Sun
day, 13 November, starting at 07:00 UTC from the Cenotaph in Mossel Ba
y. Activity will be on 7090 kHz until 10:00 UTC. QSL via the SA-QSL system
or the SARL Bureau.
THE LAST LEG OF THE SARL 80M CLUB CONTEST
The sixth and last leg of the SARL Wednesday 80 m Club Contest will be run
from 17:00 to 18:00 UTC on Wednesday 16 November. The exchange is a RS,
RST or RSQ report, your Club name or abbreviation and your 4-character
grid square. Please turn to page 57 of the 2022 Blue Book for the list of
Club names and abbreviations. The contest rules are on page 58. Submit yo

THE SARL NEWBIE QSO PARTY ON 19 NOVEMBER
Calling all the new radio amateurs, those who passed the RAE in October.
The Newbie QSO Party is for you, its aim is to encourage all new radio
amateurs to become active. The second leg will run from 08:00 to 20:00 UT
C on Saturday 19 November 2022 and there will be many stations looking for
you - only to add your call sign to their WAZS awards! The exchange and s coring depend on the length of time that you are a radio amateur. The QSO
Party is a phone only contest with activity on 20, 40 and 80 metres. Su

THE HIBISCUS COAST AMATEUR RADIO CLUB YEAR END FUNCTION.
The HCARC has the pleasure of inviting all interested persons (whether the
y are radio amateurs or not) to their year-end function that will take pla
ce from 14:00 on Saturday 26 November 2022 at the Cinder City Moth Shellho
le in Sea Park, 7 km north of Port Shepstone, on the south coast of Kw azulu-Natal. It is a social event and entails a bring and braai. The venue

THE WEST RAND FLEA MARKET ON 19 NOVEMBER
The West Rand Amateur Radio Club is inviting you to come join them at thei
r next flea market which will be held on 19 November 2022 at the Club hous
e at the end of Kroton Street south (down the embankment) in Weltevreden P
ark. To book a table, send an e-mail to

vendors are welcome to set up shop from 11:30 onwards with trading starti
ng at 12:00. There will be lots of goodies on sale as well as food and col

nd for so long. Or just come chat with a fellow amateur while you enjoy on
e of our delicious hamburgers.
ARRL HANDBOOK 2023 PRE-ORDER NOW
The 2023 ARRL Handbook is the 100th anniversary edition. The Amateur Radio
Development Trust bookshop is taking pre-orders for the 6-volume set. Wit
h the exchange rate being volatile it is impossible to quote a final price
. Working on the worst-case scenario the cost could be around R2500. To
pre-order a copy, a payment of R2000 is required. The closing date for
pre-order and EFT payment is Friday 18 November 2022. Once the books arri
ve and are cleared, the final price will be calculated and the person wh
o pre-ordered and paid the R2000 deposit will be advised of the final pric
e and requested to submit the balance. In the event that the price plus th
e R120 Postnet fee is less a refund will be made. Delivery is expected to
be not later than the second week December. The order form is available o
n www.sarl.org.za. The softcover version in a single book is only availabl
e from the ARRL.
PROPAGATION REPORT
Hannes Coetzee, ZS6BZP, reports that the solar activity is expected to
be at low to moderate levels. There are currently 3 sunspots with simple
to complex magnetic configurations visible. There is a high probability f
or C-class and a low probability for M-class flaring.
If you want to do your own frequency predictions, the expected effective
sunspot number for the week will be around 76. The 10 to 30 m bands will
, especially in the late afternoon, provide some good DX fun. Please v

DIE 2023 ARRL HANDBOEK BESTEL NOU VOORAF
Die 2023 ARRL-Handboek is die 100ste herdenking-uitgawe. Die Amateur Radio
Ontwikkelingstrust-boekwinkel neem vooraf bestellings vir die 6-volume st
el. Met die wissel koers wat wisselvallig is, is dit onmoontlik om 'n fi
nale prys aan te haal. Werk aan die ergste scenario, kan die koste sowat
R2 500 beloop. Om 'n kopie vooraf te bestel, word 'n deposito van R2 00
0 vereis. Die sluitingsdatum vir vooraf bestelling en EFT-betaling is Vryd
ag 18 November 2022. Sodra die boeke arriveer en deur doeane is, sal die
finale prys bereken word en persoon wat die R2 000-deposito vooraf bestel
