THE IARU REGION 1 - DECEMBER 2022 YOTA MONTH

December is YOTA Month when several youngsters from Member Societies will
become active on the air with YOTA as suffix in the call signs. The YOTA
Month runs from 00:00 UTC on Thursday 1 December to 23:59 UTC on Saturday
31 December 2022. International YOTA stations, operated by young amateu
rs in their teens and early 20s, will attempt to make many contacts worl
dwide with each other. This event is aimed at our young generation and is
an excellent opportunity for clubs to get youngsters on the air who are i nterested in or want to find out more about Amateur Radio.

It is not a formal contest, but a way to get our current young amateurs
on the air contacting hundreds of other youngsters around the world. The
SARL has registered the special call sign ZS9YOTA on the YOTA website for
use by clubs and individuals during December. All radio amateurs are welc
ome to enjoy a QSO with the youngsters. Please note that some of them are
new to the radio hobby, while others are more experienced.

To reserve a slot to use the ZS9YOTA call sign on a daily basis, or for
more information, please contact Guy, ZS6GUY via e-mail at guy.eales@
    se.com (mailto:guy.eales@se.com) or alternatively to Nico, ZS6QL at zs6 ql@mweb.co.za (mailto:zs6ql@mweb.co.za) . The schedule and applicable rul
es will be available on the SARL website soon. Looking forward to hearing
our younger generation on the air during December!

South Africa's new 24-hour, state-of-the-art regional Space Weat

    THE IARU HAMPROJECTS WEBINAR

The IARU Region 1 Hamprojects Webinar will run from 14:00 to 15:00 UTC (16
:00 to 17:00 CAT) on Saturday 3 December 2022 on the BlueJeans platform. A ttendance is free with registration. To register click here https://sarl.u s5.list-manage.com/track/click?u'b05a8cba9589bf8d019e5d3&idÞ19a17c 2c&eœe7bd785b.

Hamprojects is a platform to facilitate team project work. The concept was
developed by Willi Vollenweider, HB9AMC as part of the IARU Region 1 Sh
aping the Future of Amateur Radio initiative. Willi is part of the SO4 tea
m which was tasked to develop initiatives to achieve recognition that Amat
eur Radio is, among all the non-commercial technology communities, the
leading one for radio communications. Willi has developed the beta versio
n which is hosted by USKA (the Swiss Member Society) and can be accessed a
t www.hamprojects.ch. The ultimate aim is to host on an IARU platform. The
purpose of the platform is to initiate complex projects that are beyond t
he possibility of individuals or even one amateur radio society or club. T ypically, such projects would be multidisciplinary, requiring diverse
    skills.

During the webinar, Willi will explain Hamprojects in detail and explain
how individual radio amateurs and groups, or amateur radio cubs, can
take part or initiate their own projects and attract international partic ipation. By sharing the concept of Hamprojects and presenting the beta-typ
e version, the aim is also to interest developers to join Willi to creat
e the required database facilities and to release Hamprojects as a fully o perational platform for shaping a future for technology innovation in amat
    eur radio.

Participation in the webinar is open to all persons having a technology in terest and wishing to become part of future innovation. There will be an o
pen discussion after the presentation. Register as soon as possible, as
participation is limited to 150 persons. The event is hosted by AMSAT SA
and the South African Radio League in support of IARU Region 1 Shaping th
    e Future of Amateur Radio.

It is preferable that the interested participants have a radio operatorâ
-(tm)s licence or have joined their local member society and have enrolle

Each entrant is expected to cover the cost of their travel to and from the

â-˜Shaping the Future of Amateur Radio' inisiatief. Willi i

Daar sal 'n oop
bespreking na die aanbieding wees. Registreer so gou moontlik aangesien d eelname beperk is tot 150 persone.
â-˜Shaping the Future of Amateur Radio.'
