We begin this bulletin with the news of silent keys.
It is with deep regret that we announce that the keys of David Hartwig,
ZS1DA; Rob Hindmarch, ZS5RH; Mario Karny, ZS6KM; Henk Stuivenberg,
ZS6CS / PA0STU and Lee How, ZS6ARG have gone silent.
David passed away suddenly on 8 November. David only recently joined the C
TARC and was planning to be quite active in the club with his regalia and
name badge. David often kept us entertained on the radio with his friends
daily. We extend our deepest sympathy to David's partner, Marcella, h
is family and friends.
Rob passed away on 14 November 2021.
Mario passed away during the night of 2/3 December 2022. Mario was involv
ed in SAATI, especially with 9k6 packet radio and as a tester with sever
al others during the early development of Winlink HF Radio E-mail in the 1 990's. Mario suffered with his health for the last few years and was no lo
nger active. We extend our sincere condolences to his wife Linde, ZS6GK
, family and friends.
Henk passed away on Sunday 4 December 2022 in the Netherlands. He used to
be a member of the Pretoria ARC and a regular visitor to flea markets. We
extend our sincere condolences to his wife Ria, son Mark, brother-in-
law Ton, PA0TBR (ex ZS4BU), family and friends.
A WhatsApp message was received to say Lee had passed away.

A CHRISTMAS MESSAGE TO THE WORLD
On the morning of Christmas Eve, Saturday 24 December, the Alexander G
rimeton Friendship Association, in southern Sweden will be on the air se
nding out a special Christmas message to the world. The event will begin a
t 07:30 UTC with the start-up and tuning of the Alexanderson alternator tr ansmitter through Grimeton Radio Station, call sign SAQ. The transmissio
n will begin at 08:00 UTC with the 98-year-old 200 kW Alexanderson alterna
tor on 17,2 kHz CW.
Grimeton Radio Station, SK6SAQ, will be active on the following freque
ncies - 3,535 MHz CW; 7,035 MHz CW; 14,035 MHz CW; 3,755 M
Hz SSB and 7,140 MHz SSB. QSL reports can be sent to SK6SAQ via e-mail a

e live streamed on the Alexander SAQ Grimeton Friendship Association YouTu

The Alexanderson alternator transmitter is the only remaining example of e
arly pre-electronic radio transmitter technology. The station, built in
1922 to 1924, has been preserved as a historical site. From the 1920s t
hrough the 1940s, it was used to transmit telegram traffic by Morse code

CONTEST NEWS
The Contest Working Group is finalising the 2023 SARL Contest Manual or Bl
ue Book. The Team worked through the final draft during the week and the c orrections are being made to the document. The new Contest Manual will be
uploaded during the coming week.
Twenty-five log sheets were received for the sixth and last leg of the SAR
L Saturday 40 m Club Contest with 473 QSOs in the logs.

PROPAGATION REPORT
Hannes Coetzee, ZS6BZP, reports that the solar activity is expected to
be at low levels. There are currently 9 sunspots with simple to complex m agnetic configurations visible. There is a high probability for C-class fl aring and a low probability for M-class solar flares. If you want to do yo
ur own frequency predictions, the expected effective sunspot number for
the week will be around 76. The 15 to 30 m bands may provide some good DX

David is op 8 November skielik oorlede. David het eers onlangs by die Kaap
stad ARS aangesluit en was van plan om redelik aktief in die Klub te wees
met sy regalia en naam kenteken. David het ons dikwels daagliks saam met
sy vriende oor die radio vermaak. Ons betuig ons innige simpatie met Davi
d se lewensmaat, Marcella, sy familie en vriende.
Rob is op 14 November 2021 oorlede.
Mario is in die nag van 2/3 Desember 2022 oorlede. Mario was betrokke by S AATI, veral met 9k6 pakket-radio en as toetser saam met verskeie ander t
ydens die vroeë ontwikkeling van Winlink HF Radio E-pos in die 1990's
. Mario het die laaste paar jaar gesukkel met sy gesondheid en was nie mee
r aktief nie. Ons betuig ons innige meegevoel met sy vrou Linde, ZS6GK

Henk is op Sondag 4 Desember 2022 in Nederland oorlede. Hy was vroeër

Die Alexanderson alternator-sender is die enigste oorblywende voorbeeld va

KOMPETISIE NUUS
Die Kompetisie-Werkgroep finaliseer die 2023 SARL-Kompetisiehandleiding of
Blouboek. Die Span het gedurende die week deur die finale konsep gewerk e
n die regstellings word aan die dokument aangebring. Die nuwe Kompetisieha ndleiding sal gedurende die komende week opgelaai word.
Vyf-en-twintig logstate is ontvang vir die sesde en laaste been van die SA
