SPECIAL THEME FOR WORLD AMATEUR RADIO DAY 2023 ANNOUNCED

The International Amateur Radio Union announces that Human Security for Al
l, HS4A, will be the theme of World Amateur Radio Day on 18 April 2023
. For the first time, the United Nations Trust Fund for Human Security a
nd the World Academy of Art and Science are partnering with IARU in a camp
aign to highlight the role that amateur radio plays in addressing the worl
    d's most pressing needs.

Human Security measures security at the individual level. First introduced
by the UN in 1994, the concept identifies seven interrelated dimensions
of security that are essential to an individual's well-being: eco
nomic, food, health, environmental, personal, community, and p
    olitical.

The partners believe Amateur Radio is uniquely positioned to address peopl e-centered, context-specific security challenges by promoting technical
knowledge, practical skills, innovative technology, and the deploym
ent of backup systems at the community level that can be called upon in ti
mes of emergency. The pandemic, climate change, natural disasters, a
nd armed conflicts on several continents undermine our security and respec
t no boundaries. Amateur Radio has repeatedly demonstrated its ability to
address human security needs. It is a truly global communications medium
comprising some three million radio enthusiasts connecting communities an
d the peoples of the world.

IARU, a federation of the national amateur radio societies of over 150 c ountries worldwide, is the global advocate for amateur radio through its
Sector Membership in the International Telecommunication Union, an agen
cy of the UN, and other activities. In celebration of World Amateur Radi
o Day, IARU and its Member Societies will conduct a special two-week on- the-air event between 11 and 25 April. Special event stations will be oper ating from around the world, making two-way radio contacts to call atten
    tion to the HS4A campaign.

INFORMATION PROGRAMME FOR DISABLED RADIO AMATEURS (IPDA)

The SARL has a vacancy for an IPDA Coordinator. In terms of the IARU Regio
n 1 Terms of Reference, this person will be tasked with the gathering an
d circulation of information about organisations for disabled radio amateu
rs; special courses, and methods for preparing people with disabilities
for the examinations required to get a radio amateur license; nets organi
sed by disabled radio amateurs and details about the equipment that was de signed for use by amateurs with various disabilities. This person will lia
ise with the Region 1 IPDA Coordinator.

If you have the knowledge and skills to take up this challenge, please c
    ontact the SARL Secretary at

    THE AMSATSA CHALLENGE

AMSAT SA invites you to take your next step in Amateur Radio by sharing yo
ur technical skills and experience is the further development of a local a mateur satellite initiative. AMSAT SA has just the right challenge for you
. The AfriCUBE development team is being expanded to tackle interesting su pplementary and operational projects.

AfriCUBE and its predecessor, Kletskous have been a long time in finalis
ing but that is the name of the game if you don't go out shopping and buy
everything in kit form and just assemble it. Almost every part of the pro jects was local developed and engineered and in the process many persons h
ave facilitated and grown their own technical abilities, adding to South
    Africa's intellectual capital.

Volunteers are needed for the final development of a power supply and cont
rol unit, several sensor projects for the educational part of the satell
ite and ground control equipment. Here is an importunity to contribute to
amateur radio technology and develop your own technical skills. The proje
ct team meets regularly alternate Monday evenings on the BlueJeans video c onference platform and a few times a year for a Saturday face to face meet
ing in Midrand. An in-person review meeting is planned for Saturday 25 Feb ruary. If you are a technologist at heart, it now is a good time to send
    an e-mail to admin@amsatsa.org.za (mailto:admin@amsatsa.org.za) with your
    interest and contact details.

and it is all digital. Yes, you heard right, a digital contest called
the SARL Digital Contest. The first three-hour leg will take place from 1
3:00 UTC on Sunday 26 February 2023. You may use any digital mode except f
    or RTTY with activity on 160, 80, 40, 20, 15, and 10 metres. You

SPESIALE TEMA VIR WÊRELD AMATEUR RADIO DAG 2023 AANGEKONDIG

25 April 'n spesiale twee-week-op-die-lug geleentheid hou.

Hier is 'n belangrikheid om by
As jy 'n tegnolo
